Re: Vehicle Based Patrolling, Reconnaissance and Surveillanc

I was looking at a minibike the other day and thinking it would be good for the PAW since if you got somewhere impaasible you could just pick the thing up and carry it for a bit. After my experiences with ethanol fuel and small engines after the latest hurricane though, I am not so sure about the id...

Re: Intelligence Gathering and Patrolling

Very good idea. Have to search my local area. Let me know what sort of results you get! Whole lot of nothing. Either I am using the wrong search terms or the local thug life sets do not like youtube. I know there are Latin Kings around the area. And the Outlaws MC is very strong in this town.

Re: Vehicle Based Patrolling, Reconnaissance and Surveillanc

I kind of like the idea of mountain bikes. It makes a lot of sense for a PAW situation and allows for more stealth. You could also use a combination of techniques and use motor vehicles to make a base for your scouts to set out from on bicycles while a group stays with the trucks to act as a QRF/pat...

Re: 2016 Storms-Hurricane Matthew Attention FL,GA, SC,NC!

I just got internet back last night (while at work) so I am checking in from Daytona Beach, FL. Nothing really ground breaking I can pass on, most of this stuff has been covered many times on Zombie Squad. I did find one combination of new technology since my last hurricane experience that made a ma...

Re: rethinking bug out vehicle given protesters blocking tra

I think it's important to consider, at least indirectly. SUVs and trucks give you a lot of options. You can go off-road through a median with 4 wheel drive and good tires. You have more visibility, more mass, more ground clearance. You can have steel bumpers and more power. I wouldn't worry about a...

Re: Air Force "Shoot to Disarm" training? SRSLY?

This news article has an example of the RUF/ROE card I was required to have in my possession at all times when armed in Iraq and Kuwait working as a contractor. You can see how someone could easily misunderstand without good training. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/monkey-cage/wp/2016/08/16/may...

Re: Air Force "Shoot to Disarm" training? SRSLY?

I would guess your friend does not understand the RUF/ROE. Or did not have adequate training. ROE rules typically list a set of responses to various types of resistance in a linear fashion from least to greatest. Without good instruction many people think those steps have to be followed in order bef...

Re: Suggestions for evacuating with cats? Difficulty: no car

Why not just buy a cheap beater car that you only use on your days off, but can double as your get out of town transport, not just for SHTF, but for day trips, traveling, etc.? I am unfamiliar with urban living, but I understand not having a car if everything you need is in walking distance/public t...

Re: Islamic Terror Attacks in Europe

Not sure how we got side barred but it did occur to me that if the German Government suddenly required everyone to keep an extra five days of food at home that would create temporary shortages at the market if the compliance rate were high. Reading between the lines this is the German government's ...

Re: Alternative remedies for bleeding control

Sugar will work, but you have to use a ton of it. It is still used by vets for animals. Marcus Luttrell said he packed dirt into his injuries during Operation Red Wings to stop bleeding, I sure as hell wouldn't want to do that unless I figured I was about to die of blood loss and I was going to be e...

Not being of the blond haired and blue eyed variety I don't think I would want to travel to Bavaria any time soon. They keep getting hit with their government doing nothing to stop it and the lash back is gonna be nasty. You can only push the Germans so far before the lederhosen and silly dancing go...

I have started carrying a flat sap occaisionally. Massive head trauma tends to be instantly incapcitating. The sap also gives plenty of less lethal options as well.

Also shows that bladed weapons, even large bladed weapons, are poor stoppers, especially with poor technique. Also your defensive weapons should be extensively tested and kept fully loaded.

All of those are prudent measures, and I have them installed in my own house. But, the OP lives in a rented apartment. He's probably prohibited from driving in picture hanging nails let alone driving structural screws into the building frame. It's the reason I suggested door jammer bars and adhesiv...

Re: Thief-proofing My Apartment (kinda)

Have you changed out your locks? How about adding longer (2.5" or greater) screws to you door frame so that the frame is actually joined to the vertical frame members of the apartment and harder to kick in? The last time I kicked down a door (gaining entry to a locked hotel room for a medical emerge...

Good idea with the diverter. And good for your wife's greyman instincts. No need for the neighbors to be able to tell yo uare a prepper just by walking out to check their mailbox or take out the trash.

Re: What Would Happen If G.P.S. Failed?

I was thinking of this thread today. I was reading Winnie the Pooh to my three year old and the back page of the book had a map of the Hundred Acre Wood. So I started playing with my kid pointing out land marks and asking him how to follow the paths to various character's houses. He did really well....

Re: What Would Happen If G.P.S. Failed?

A direct attack on the Master Control Station in Colorado springs by a terrorist group would probably take things offline for a while. The MCS is located on Peterson Air Force Base which also houses NorthCOM, so it is essentially unguarded against an attack. My old job was base security overseas. Mo...

Um, interesting. Not how I would do it. Raising my hand and saying "i would like to hear your approach to the patroling scenarios" My thoughts are that I am interested in scalability as I'm not likely to have 15 good folks to take out on patrol and engage in big firefights. You really need three el...
