Re: Yellowstone volcano eruption

So, an eruption doesn't have to be a massive "supervolcano" type eruption. Much more likely is a smaller eruption or lava flow like the one that formed the west thumb of Yellowstone lake 174,000 years ago. It's a highly active region, smallish steam explosions are highly likely too. https://en.m.wik...

I melt together coconut oil, lanolin and beeswax and carry it in a little tin. Use it for lips, inner thighs, between toes... any place that needs a bit of moisture and lubrication.

Re: NASA Plan to Eliminate Yellowstone Volcano Threat

I hate to say it, but the idea isn't entirely infeasible. Provided you don't actually bore into the magma chamber, there are cobalt and nickle superalloys that could take the pressure and temperatures necessary for it to work. Just don't ask what it will cost to make a downhole heat exchanger out o...

I would have zero issue with that. The whole point is to bring them up to temperature long enough to kill the baddies. So long as the water didn't evaporate, should be good to go...

Re: NASA Plan to Eliminate Yellowstone Volcano Threat

Course, they never drilled into a volcano..... Geothermal power is a bit different since what you do there is to tap into an existing heat source to generate either hot water or steam. It is not designed to cool off that heat source. Technically it isn't. It is expending the heat source and removin...

Re: Yellowstone earthquake swarm hits entire park

No, that's accurate. There have been much smaller eruptions in more recent history. The west thumb was formed 130,000 years ago, tgere was a lava flow around 70,000 years ago, and steam explosions much more recently. It's Caldera forming eruptions that are around every 700,000 years.

Wow that is some wildfire. However, evacuation is the only thing to do in the case of a wildfire. Yes, when presented with a wildfire, the only sane thing you can do is bug out. That said, this is a prepping site, so we'd be remiss to not mention the importance of maintaining a defensible zone arou...

It's not just flooding you have to worry about. If you live somewhere with a high water table, you suddenly have a buried boat, and the buoyancy forces can be very substantial. Enough to unbury your structure, or bow the floor in...
