I've noticed that wood privacy fences don't usually survive hurricanes, they fall over intact. If you were really going to take a direct hit, I'd pop some slats out of the fence. It might save the fence. I speak having had to rebuild a fence after Ivan. Putting the backyard furniture on the porch MI...

1. Yes, sewers can back up. Go with septic system. 2. Stainless looks cool.......but a regular toilet will work. 3. Yes, very possible for city water to be cut off and/or contaiminated; its happened in hurricanes. Depending on your area and depth of a well you could get a deep well or a shallow well...

I once subscribed to the "latex allegeries are rare" theory; last week talking to my brother about his mole removal. The band-aid caused more skin irratation than the removal, which has already healed. It took my brother 37 years to figure out he had a latex allergy. I'm putting the latex gloves in ...

I'd nix the sword cane or any other concealed weapon; most men carry knives and they are overlooked. A walking staff and pepper spray would serve you better. Section 13A-11-50, Code of Alabama. Carrying concealed weapons. Except as otherwise provided in this Code, a person who carries concealed abou...

My bedroom is on the second floor of a two story townhouse. I'd go out the bedroom window............naked. The drop wouldn't be too bad, banged leg or ankle at worse.

Whoever said let the g/f dress....probably not time; mine is going out clothes in one arm. She can dress outside.

The only thing that bothers me is having to ford the creek.

The location and distance to stores is fine. Find out how high the creek gets and whether you can access it during high water. Would hate to see you climbing aboard a national guard helicopter getting evacuated in a flood.

Sean, why not just pack two dollars rather than quarters? I know survival books have listed having quarters forever, but technology has changed. IF you can find a pay phone that works, having a calling card is more important or make a collect call. Just not sure what the quarters buys you. This is a...

I don't check wattage. I just plug stuff in until the alarm sounds and the breaker trips. I've got one jumpstart and when the next one is bearing down, I'll add another to the collection. Also love my rechargeable lantern, that is rechargeable from DC/AC. Its a Coleman.

Most of the time, the outdoors is safe enough. Better practice to hike in pairs though.

When I do carry a gun, its not for the snakes, coyotes, etc........its for the meth head who might be sitting at my Jeep waiting on it.

There are some Idahoan instant potatos that you just add water. It apparently already has instant/powdered milk and butter in it. I picked up a big box at Sams. They taste pretty good. Going to add them to the supplies and next time at Sams pick up another box or two.
