Re: 2 way that covers 113 - 125 miles

I think that would be a pretty easy NVIS shot on HF, maybe 40 meters.

Howdy and welcome from Kentucky. I've got a 48-v wind turbine and inverter and zero high current DC experience so, again, welcome.

Re: Closest Call

Not the closest but the most recent: Road the old lady's Harley to work yesterday to give it some exercise and wash it on the way home. Around 1600 I was heading home on a broad, two-lane highway doing about 60-mph. This was a straight stretch of road with clear visibility a half-mile in each direct...

Re: Started a new site, suggestions?

MSurber90, What I'd like? Regular updates with original content! Way too many blogs/websites start and then die after the first few entries. There are hundreds (thousands?) of websites about zombies, for example, that have one or two entries, many of them rehashes from other sites, and nothing else....

Re: Using your Vehicle as a Weapon

My younger sister got pulled over and lectured by a LEO on situational awareness for stopping at a red light in Newark, NJ at 0100. By her report he gave her quite a good rundown on the does and don'ts of late night urban driving, obstacle avoidance, possible ambush sites, blocked and unblocked ambu...

Re: No good deed goes unpunished

While my inner-Walt Kowalski is cheering confrontation, staying cool is the way to go until Jose crosses whatever line you establish. Years ago I had a talk with my kid when he was feeling his oats and hanging out where a lot of nonsense always went down. What I told him is that there is always some...

This is probably of little comfort but we are on the downward side of propagation in this meager sunspot cycle. Give it a year or two and you will rarely have to deal with high power foreign CB stations.

Re: Overseas gig for ZSers-Update

I'm wrapping up the turnover of this contract and it looks like we'll be good to go on 1 May but I can always use a few people who are interested in this type of gig. The contractors are living pretty comfortably: two-man rooms, chowhall (DFAC) meal cards, 6 8-hour a week shifts, cell phones, intern...

Re: Overseas gig for ZSers

We're fixing to complete the turnover with current NATO guys on this mission and I'm guessing I'll have a few more slots to fill, so if you've got a passport and a clearance and are looking for some overseas work, send me a PM. Additionally, I anticipate picking up a similar contract in September fo...

Re: New SDR radio turns into a real thing....

TacAir, I've been keeping my eye on the SDR transceiver market for two years waiting for the prices to crash. I read the review in QST last month of the Flex radios and saw nothing to support the $5-7,000 price range other than scarcity. The more products like this that hit the streets the more mome...
