Re: Police say Detroit too dangerous to enter.
Mayor Dave Bing says Detroit won't run out of cash, despite the pace of financial progress. Interesting.

Not all are fleeing the city. Governor could send in some National Guard... if it was really required. But that's dicey.
Idea: creating a neighborhood watch, even if it's just a bunch of old people.

Re: Police say Detroit too dangerous to enter.
Why mention the hours? Well if you are working too much, not getting paid enough and getting shot at people tend to leave. Being overworked and exhausted while hanging out in a dangerous area/situation can lead to one being dead . It's a legit gripe. Idea: free housing for Detroit cops. Make an act...

Re: Police say Detroit too dangerous to enter.
Regardless of WHY there are fewer police, can we agree that this is a problem? Valarius, unless your town has a population and criminal make up similar to that of Detroit, I can't say that they are comparable. I assume you have state or county police in your town? That's polite talk for "ease up be...

Re: Police say Detroit too dangerous to enter.
So the crime stats are fabricated? Not fabricated at all. What this guy is doing is telling the public that police employment has fallen, and then claimed a single, overriding reason for it. Actually they are saying it is extremely violent and dangerous...hence they arent getting paid enough to put...

Re: Police say Detroit too dangerous to enter.
I don't know what to tell you. I still don't know what your point is. Your statement that violent crime is "very rare" is pretty baseless in this thread. In your town, maybe, but not Detroit. If you want to talk about your town, then start a thread about it. However it sounds like your town is noth...

Re: Police say Detroit too dangerous to enter.
My point is that my town, my home, has no police, and there's a public perception that we're all Mad Max here. It's nothing like that at all.
Police officers have been leaving Detroit, yes. The force has been downsized, yes. But there is still police. So what's this guy saying here?

Re: Re: Police say Detroit too dangerous to enter.
ppppfffffttttt When we fled Las Vegas in 1991, there were areas of town to the cops would only go to in groups of two or three cars, with two cops in a car. At night, they didn't go at all. Maybe it's better now - but I doubt it. Liberty City, the Pork and Beans, Overtown - most major 'urban' citie...

New U.S. jobs report was released today. Some info added in, because opening a PDF at work can be a pain. The unemployment rate decreased to 7.8 percent in September, and total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 114,000, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment increased in hea...

unless you're a millionaire nobody can pay off a mortgage month after month AND yearly taxes. Uhhhh, what? Dad's paid his mortgage off twice now. Many can't. Look at what it takes to carry a mortgage. You need money. Usually initial money in the form of a down payment. That's either something you h...

Yes the property values will rise, but they will be inflated value, not actual value, right? And all these mortgages that are owned by the Fed, will they be treated the same as the College loans, in that there is no debt forgiveness (if not already, I don't see a reason for that to show up later) w...

Pest animal in Ohio. No bag limits, and we're not limited to shotguns. I'm a vegetarian, and this is what I keep saying to other people: you want meat, hunt a rabbit. Every day there's at least one animal lying in or by the side of the town roads and highways. Fast food ain't better. Or that fast. ...

Small critique. If the zombie machete is actually going to be used as a machete, I'd enlarge the holes so you can countersink the knuckle screws. Seeing your ring finger that close to protruding metal made me cringe.
The others are absolutely sweet as hell though.

My longest running thread. I'm so proud.
Every gas station within 50 miles is at $3.99 per gallon, or higher. People are starting to drive shorter distances for things.

I've never held a good khukuri, so can't give you any specifics. How sharp it is would be one clue, as I have held several khukuris that were not very good, and they had very thick edges that wouldn't cut. I'm a forum goer interested in making blades that don't need reloading. Would 01 tool steel b...
