i really like it miles, it's compact, really well packed and you've got a lotta cool stuff for the situation you've planned for. ironraven's suggestion of a voltage detector is a good one, in something like a big earthquake or mongrel hurricane in an urban setting if there's still mains power coming...

I was wondering how many other members here have a company vehicle or a profession that require them to drive long distances? And do they have some form of survival/resuce gear? i have a company vehicle, and have to drive long distances for work (look up western australia on google earth - that's m...

I've thought about this exercise a lot before not having to anymore. i'm with ironraven on this - but maybe i'm illustrating it differently? each b.o.b should have an e&e component to it that contains the first line gear you cannot do without. bivvy (or contracter bags), own sleeping bag, ration, wa...

Just got an e-mail back from Mel at Kifaru (How GOOD is their customer service? i'd read that it was but WOW. it is!) Mel Terkla/Kifaru wrote: Hey Gari, thanks for your interest in our gear. Anyone remember those all in one ninja swords. They would have darts in the wrapping, throwing stars under the guard. The sheath had a spike so you could stab it in the ground, stand on the guard and use it as a ladder. It had a bunch of other crap thrown into it also. I remeber seeing an ad for on...

This is another way around it. Here I have mixed glow powder and epoxy resin and syringed it into a small length of aquarium plastic tubing. A fishing swivel on the end holds a split ring I can put onto my pack. This will absorb enough ambient light from INSIDE the house to glow for 10 hours. Last ...

Sometimes it's lighter and easier to go with one, larger quality bag that you've organized with ziplocks and ...
