Re: Critique echo83's Get Home Bag

Agreed. Getting caught out in the cold would be brutal. Ideally, I would stay with my car if the weather was that bad. The bivy bag, as well as the contractor bags, are shelter items that I hope I never have to use on their own. Inside a vehicle, I'm sure the bivy bag would be sufficient, but really...

Re: Critique echo83's Get Home Bag

My only "weapons" are my EDC Gerber multi-tool, the e-tool in my vehicle, and the Gerber Big Rock, so if there are any enemies I need all the help I can get from my Mountain House! Good call on the water; I always have more in my vehicle. In a pinch, I can boil and purify with the volcano stove. I c...

Critique echo83's Get Home Bag

Hello all, This is my first post with photos, so I'm hoping it works. (If there's an easier way to post photos, please let me know.) My work requires me to drive all day in a mixture of rural and city areas that are a minimum of a half mile, maximum of 20 miles from my home. I have emergency roadsid...

Re: The Day of EDC Victory

Ok, I'll go: I bought a Christmas tree this past winter. There were a few attendants there to help wrap and tie trees on cars for people. After wrapping it myself, I used my Gerber to cut the plastic netting. After that, I lugged it to my vehicle and used 550 cord from the GHB to tie it on. Sad thin...

Re: .22 detachable magazine vs. tube magazine

I can definitely see the advantages in both a tube fed semi auto and a magazine fed bolt action. For the record, and not to hijack my own thread, I have a Mossberg 500 and a Mossberg 930 and love them both. The 500 was my first, I love the simplicity of operation, the reliability of a pump action, a...

Re: .22 detachable magazine vs. tube magazine

There are some great thoughts here, and lots of new viewpoints to consider; I'm glad that I consulted with you all. Luckily, I have the option to try before I buy, so I will put the tube-fed and magazine-fed through their respective paces and try to make the best decision that I can. Thanks again fo...

Re: .22 detachable magazine vs. tube magazine

Sorry for the confusion; I should have specified a magazine-fed bolt action versus a tube-fed semi-auto. Asymetryczna- What I'm looking for is primarily for plinking at the range, with a secondary (and less likely) option to hunt small game (squirrels, etc). Doctorr Fabulous- I think that magazines ...

.22 detachable magazine vs. tube magazine

School me on .22 LR! I'm looking for recommendations in choosing a .22 rifle, because I'm torn between a bolt action with detachable magazine versus a tube magazine. What I would like out of this .22 is a firearm that is low maintenance, easy to operate and reliable. Here are the pros and cons as I ...
