Re: No Guns here

Unless you have a criminal history, you can get a shotgun. No "good reason" needed. You will need a cabinet for the gun but not the cartridges. It isn't difficult, particularly in the wilds of Scotland where they are not worried about gang violence. You fill in a form, buy a cabinet and be nice to t...

The hunters DNA will be all over the shaft. Unfortunately, mixed with your friend's, the vet's and the dogs.

I think you could do worse than read both volumes of "Silencer History and Performance". Volume 1 contains more background information but volume 2 might be more relevant to you.

The British government made an equivalent leaflet 5-10 years ago. Nobody took much notice.

I seem go remember something about mosin sights being designed for the rifle with a bayonet. Different elevation without it.

You might have better things to use the electricity on rather than the off chance of seeing something interesting. A pair of binoculars and a stealthy approach would do the same thing.

Re: Military coup d'etat in Turkey

A BBC correspondent on the radio suggested that the coup was a response to a proposed military re-organisation. If this is true and Erdoran was consolidating power within the Army then he can now accelerate the changes he wanted to make. He probably already has a list of people/groups he doesn’t lik...

I'd go broadsword and buckler.

For most people who haven't done weapons based martial arts, I think a 18" long heavy bladed machete would work best.

Barbed wire would considerably increase the risk of getting scratched by an infected weapon. That would be very dangerous to the user. I agree that plain wire would help stop a bat splitting which is a good thing.

Re: Is Lucille Awesome?

No, it is a stick. Baseball bats may have lots of social associations in the U.S. but they are still only any good against unarmed opponents. I'd take a sword, spear, axe or proper mace over a baseball bat.

Re: EcoCooler & Cooling w/o Electricity

This can't work as described. I think it is more likely just increased ventilation.

If they want to increase air flow then sticking a chimney on the top of the building would be better. 10 foot of pipe would do it (preferably black painted steel).

Re: Camp Night Marker - Don't Lose the Camp!

For a while I've thought that a piece of glow in the dark plastic that can be rolled up in to a cylinder would make a great camp light. Just give it a bit of daylight before night time and let it glow for hours. Unfortunately the nearest thing that is easily available is glow in the dark stars.

7 miles is a 15 mile round trip, more than most people would be happy travelling without a car or at least a bike.
It would have to get very bad for people to travel that far.

If you are not on a major road to somewhere, I wouldn't worry about hoards of stumbling townees going past your property.

Re: 9mm Diameter

In terms of reloading, lead 9mm and 38 bullets are close enough to function in the other calibre. Not great but they will work. Just keep the charges low with 38s in a 9mm to keep pressures down and charges high (with fast powder) with 9mm in a 38 to ensure the bullets expand to fill the barrel. The...

Prepping in an apartment- have enough cash/credit to be able to move out and get another place. I think that most renters should do this anyway. Renters will probably get their lives back together quicker after a disaster. The investment in a now destroyed property (be it a house, farm or whatever) ...

Super toxoplasmosis that damages brains and the nervous system. Leaves the body intact to act as a carrier but mashes up the brain. First infection from a cat which was suffering from feline aids so was acting as a parasite propagation system.

The things I see from this (based on press reports and what has happened in the last year, not personal experiences: Don’t be a refugee if you can avoid it. No country wants large amounts of migrants. Migrants crossing through countries are not seen as much of a problem as them staying there. If one...

Re: Cleaning a blood caked gun

Make a thorough check of the chamber area of the barrel, inside and out. Corrosive stuff can make extra corrosion/cracks in stressed areas, particularly if they are enclosed.

If it was a leather holster, it probably won't have helped either. Some types of leather are not good for metal.

They do radio versions and accessories that allow the alarm to be transmitted to someone with a receiver at a distance. They are a lot more expensive but could be useful if you want a camp to stay hidden (or want to sleep away from the water when fishing).

Re: NWTM selling "Bug out" precious metal caches

I always though that the go-to currency in the event of economic collapse was dollars. Over the last few years the US has made itself much more secure in terms of energy so that is less of a worry than for the rest of the World. Add in the huge military and the advanced technological base and dollar...
