Re: CCW Ammo. How much do you carry?

20 in the gun (XDm 9mm) Two spare 19rd mags on my person. Two additional 19rd mags in my GHB which sometimes stays in my vehicle. So, usually 96rds for the handgun. A rifle (type varies) and about a hundred rounds always in the vehicle. I never let my gas tank get below half full. Bringing extra amm...

Re: Tobacco and the Apocalypse

Skruface, Most of what I smoke are local blends from briarandbean.com (A local tobacconist). Gentleman Jack being my favorite, Peaches and Cream, Briar's Best and a few others. I also like Prince Albert (Soft Vanilla) and Captain Black when I am not around here. The two pipes I use most often are a ...

Re: Advice?

Yes, and lowwer initial cost often yeilds higher liability later. Great plan. Have you seen someone use a pistol in self defense? Do you realize how often a panicked person will keep squeezing the trigger, sending a multitude of lethal projectiles all over the place without hitting their target? Th...

Re: Advice?

I'd recommend a 12g shotgun with a stock and a flashlight. Remington 870 and Mossberg 500 are what I have and use. This will cost you about half as much as a good handgun. I'd recommend that you practice with this shotgun several times prior to keeping it loaded in the apartment. You should also tak...

Are you re-painting it camo or just OD Green? I think it looks pretty sweet in OD Green...

Re: Gold in PAW

I think gold and silver would have barter value in a PAW, but like many others I prefer useful things for this purpose (ammo, water, food, medications, medical supplies, tools, etc...) It is highly advisable to only deal with forms of PM that have known weight, dimensions and purity. US pre-1964 coi...

Re: Tobacco and the Apocalypse

I am a pipe smoker also, but I smoke often (5+ times a day). During the apocalypse, I'd probably smoke more. Another thing that may be worth picking up are some cheap backup pipes/barter pipes and maybe rolling papers. I think Missouri Meerschaum Corncob pipes are about $5 a piece and are pretty dec...

Re: Tobacco and the Apocalypse

I have seeds stored away and planned on growing some this year as a test crop, but didn't get around to it. Next year it is high on my list. I will definitely be keeping seeds on hand for when it may not be as convenient to go buy.

Re: Ruger P series pistols

Ruger P-series pistols are about the best value you can find. I have owned several P-89's and P-94's, all 9mm, and they are very reliable and accurate enough. They are a bit bulky compared to some other more modern pistols, but you can't find another gun as reliable for the price, maybe not even twi...

Re: Ruger P series

I love P-series Rugers. I have owned a P-85, several P-89s and a P-94 (all in 9mm). I like the P-94 the best. I think that they are really hard to beat for the price. Would I rather own Glocks? No. Would I rather own Sigs? Sure. Would I rather own two Rugers than one Sig for the same price? Absolute...

Re: The $50k Doomsday Disaster Shelter

I don't think that this venture has any likelihood of surviving. Most people that are interested in survival enough to spend 50k on a BOL are also intelligent enough not to tie their fate to that of hundreds of strangers, I think.

Re: Bullet proof vest..would you wear it?

I wear a IIIa vest daily now, and will certainly continue to do so during the PAW. It really isn't uncomfortable at all unless it is really hot outside, and I am also outside. I think that a decent vest is invaluable. If you have a dozen guns laying around, sell one and go buy a vest. I will get a p...

Re: Need a new pair of sunglasses

I have had a pair of Oakley Fives Squared for a couple years, I like them a lot. They provide pretty decent eye protection and don't really distort your vision at all. They are also real comfortable and fairly durable. http://www.oakley.com/images/catalog/generated/800x650/69/492433a4f36de.jpg?12271...

Re: Homemade field telephone setup.

I think the easiest and most usable solution for this type of setup would be to acquire an older pbx or key system that works well, along with compatible phones. With many companies upgrading to voip, these systems can be purchased on the cheap. The wiring that exists between houses and your local t...
