Re: North Korea Saber Rattling

Action1: If RoK/allies DO NOT strike first, DPRK MAY strike. Risk 1: IF DPRK strikes first, it will be with full capacity. Action 2: IF RoK/allies strike preemptively, some DPRK capacity to strike MAY remain. Risk 2: If DPRK retains any capacity, they WILL strike. That goes into the equation. Any s...

Re: A last drink...

Pusser's rum, with a Barq's rootbeer chaser. In a mixed cocktail, rum and rootbeer is called a Mad Hungarian. But I expect in the ZPAW it'll be Grandma's Own Recepie for All-in-One Alcohol, Lighter Fluid, Paint Thinner and De-Greaser, maybe chased down with Nasty-Azz' San Quinten pruno. I haven't h...

Re: Working the Angles - Clearing Your House

We rent so heavy modification of the house is not an option. We have two dogs so in most likely scenarios they are going to give me some indicators on threat vector. I do agree on getting my wife on board with defense of hearth and home, at the moment though she hyperventilates when my firearms are ...

Re: Working the Angles - Clearing Your House

My wife has many virtues grace under pressure and use of a firearm are not among them. At this point I am thinking speed to and from the progenies room may be best.

Re: Working the Angles - Clearing Your House

I live in a college town so kids looking for cash, pawnable goods, or drugs are pretty equal in liklihood. As it is though my concern is not goods but rather my daughter who is on the opposite end of the house. I don't really care about the material in the kitchen but if I don't check it A. I turn m...

Working the Angles - Clearing Your House

When I did a search for this the newest thread was from 2011 so if there is a more recent established thread my apologies. At any rate I walked through my house for the first time with an eye towards clearing it. Until today I always figured the open floorplan would make this easy. Upon my walk thro...

For a truly hopeless situation Mistrel Boy or Greenfields of France. For the merely impossible situation Devils Dance Floor by Flogging Molly.

My thoughts on her being bait occured after the fact when I was checking the status of my CHL online. In the moment I just wanted to find her parents.

Child at the Door

A few days ago I hear the handle on my front door working like mad. Looking at the door I was really confused because I couldn't see anyone through the glass or the sidelight. Walking over I look down and see a little mop of brown hair belonging to a little girl around 2 years old. It was early afte...

Re: North Korea Saber Rattling

Maybe Kim Jong-un is going to take a "Mouse That Roared" approach where he knows that the DPRK is beyond salvage and therefore is going to pick a fight so that others have to pay to fix the country.

Re: "The Impossible" Discussion

Still worth registering the trip with the State Department. Better for them know you are in the area and never need to act on that fact than think they accounted for everyone and leave you (even more) isolated on that island.

Re: "The Impossible" Discussion

Admittedly, one thing I don't do before traveling internationally which I should do is research where the nearest American embassy/consulate is, and write down its contact information somewhere. Just a note on this comment. First if you are going overseas register the trip with the Embassy so in an...

Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

There won't be much mustering out unless the US changes it is foreign policy goals dramatically (like to something other than what the two major political parties endorse). Tell that to the 3.8% to 10% of AF officers across 5 year groups that are going to be RIF'ed by the end of the year, along wit...

The article "Time to Move On: Just becuase you watch a show does not mean you have to keep watching it a show" in the August 2011 issue of Wired Magazine describes my thougths and sentiments towards Falling Skies. "And let's face it, you complain if shows exceed their sell by date, but you complain...

Re: Help me understand 1911s

Well that was quite speedy, thanks. So my next question, what (if any) unique issues do I need to be aware of for a 9mm version of a handgun originally designed for .45ACP? And what are the parts that will not be readily inter-changable between calibers, beyond the obvious?

Re: Help me understand 1911s

This has been an incredibly interesting and informative thread. I have a 1911 on my list but it currently sits close to the bottom as I am rather... stringent about keeping my weapons to as few calibers as possible and my semi-auto pistol caliber is 9mm. I know that some manufacturers offer 9mm 1911...

Re: History Channel's Tales of the Gun

I love this show. Asked my wife for the S&W episode and then after getting it realized that at 3x the price I could have have 40x the episodes, still kicking myself for that. Another great show was Wild West Tech. I really want to get that one for my father-in-law but know to well that if it makes i...

Re: .22 Coversion - Possible Danger

These are the Air Force M9s not the Army rifles. I am really disappointed too that both the rifles and the pistols and the range are crap. I was really hoping to volunteer to run the range and get some extra time shooting.

Sorry, it is for the M9s. We have .22 conversions for some AR's as well but he didn't mention anything specific about them.
