Re: New ham

Dunno squat about those rigs.
But I can recommend the ICOM V80 as a very reliable 2m HT. No menus, basic buttons, monkey simple.

Re: desperately need advice on buying my 1st ham radio.

Pass the exam first & read product reviews. Survived 20+ yrs without computer interface/menus, but I suppose it depends on what you want to do with the hobby. If your into some of the more tech sides they might be OK; but for a dinosaur like me it'd be wasted. I've used a plain Jane IC-707 since '99...

Re: Scary experience, help me pick a revolver as an office g

Although it fails to meet your criteria in several areas, I recommend the http://www.gunblast.com/SW-632CCP.htm . Its a .327 Federal Mag and mine has the 3" barrel (4.75" sight radius). A office/house gun doesn't need a +4" bbl. The J frame feels better to me than the Ruger offerings, and determined...

Several brands of pac-boots & laced work safeties; but my comfort wear is Double-H saddle loafers.

Re: Trying to decide on a good apartment pooch.

Black and Tan coon hound or a Walker, would serve nicely. Big enough to climb the stairs, and their bark alone will deter most baddies; if the bark is insufficient... they are also used on wild boar, puma & black bear. Any of the other larger hound breeds would probably do as well, but I only have p...

S&W model 632 (.327 Federal magnum) this afternoon. It's a backup piece for the Ruger .32H&R I already had. The Ruger shoots .32H&R along with .32S&W, .32S&W Long and the .32ACP (I've done it). The S&W 632 will shoot all these in addition to its magnum round. My Mosin-Nagant shoots all but the magnu...

Re: possible purchase of SKS, have questions

I sold a Yugo a few years back that I Bubba'ed the heck out of. It was a good piece but didn't have the range I wanted up here on the open prairie. I put a Choate pistol grip synthetic stock and a new receiver cover (so I could scope it), it was a great 200yd piece even with a cheap 6x scope. Large ...

Re: Survival Firearm Battery Roll Call

I gotta get me a .327 Federal revolver after reading the current issue of American Handgunner. Already shooting .32H&R, .32S&W, .32S&W Longs & .32ACP from both my Ruger Birdhead & my Mosin Nagant (w/adapters). I can still find some flavor of .32 on the shelves when the .22's and the .44's can't be f...

Re: Battery power for 100W transceiver

What are you using for an antenna? If you work to improve your antenna you can get the effective radiation of 100 watts with that 10 -25watts of output. Less battery drain and you would also improve your reception as well. In many cases a giant antenna makes more sense than a giant battery. This wo...
