Re: MINI 14 FLAME WAR continued

I keep reading "assigned longer sentences" as in "guilty verdict no matter what." Maybe you shouldn't. I don't know why anyone would. The question I was thinking was "does the type of gun have an effect". I believe your words were "difference in verdict" but I believe the sentence is just as import...

Re: MINI 14 FLAME WAR continued

I don't buy the 'too scary for a jury' thing. Show me a case where that made any difference in the verdict http://www.thejuryexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/MeyerTJESep2009Volume21No5.pdf There was a separate study done on a whole gob of shootings, though I have a very vague memory of it. I remember ...

Re: How to Arm your Children

I think you're getting caught up in the semantics of the 4th rule and letting the spirit of the rule die. "Don't cover anything you're not willing to shoot" clears everything up and makes things pretty simple while maintaining the point of it all. Now that you've apparently cleared that up, apply i...

Re: How often do you Clean/Lube your carry gun?

Before a range trip, or toward the end of a range trip, prior to putting another mag or two through it. Then it gets holstered with only slight dirtiness. I don't like taking apart a carry gun to do anything unless I can immediately test full function afterward.

I don't trust, I verify.

Re: School Me on .300 Blackout

I wouldn't recommend using Subsonic ammo, as expansion can be unreliable. More like "complicated". In any case subsonic ammo is NOT a good choice for hunting. There are bullets specifically designed for reliable full expansion at such velocities. Just like you guys were saying before- pick the righ...

Re: Unusual ? for here...trap scattergat recommendation

I will also recommend the autos. They are much better these days than ever. The old adage of the ever-reliable pump gun, is moot as the auto designs are beyond mature and functioning magnificently. You'll notice they also dominate at clubs, except when people want to show off with a fancy high dolla...

Re: AR-15 shooting way low with irons

If it's not shooting terribly far left/right, it isn't going to be an issue with canting of the block. Unless I missed a post, the OP mentioned it shooting low. This makes it sound like the front post is too high, given how high it's shooting. Whether it's the block in relation to the rear sight or ...

Re: AR-15 shooting way low with irons

Don't waste your time or ammo on another lower. There is literally nothing that could change. Everything involved in this scenario is contained within the upper. Barrel, sights, mounts. How about a pic of the upper? That sometimes solves things real fast. My first thought was to ask if you had a fro...

Re: Firearms Chat Part 2: Bullpups cause all the rage!

Are the mags loaded with 30 rounds (possibly even 31, depending on the mag, if you're not careful) ? If so, it will always require significant force to fully seat a fully loaded mag on a closed bolt. This is because the feed lips are designed so that the round will not stop until the spring lifts th...

Re: Why Firearms Commonality is Important

I just plan to have ammo for the guns I have. I'm not planning on relying on other peoples ammo. Pretty much eliminates all those other crazy problems. Being self reliant is the overall idea in preparing! However, don't be a loan wolf at your own detriment. A squad is more capable then an individua...

Second the undershirt comment.

Since carrying, I've always worn a tshirt or wife beater underneath. If I wear only one layer, I just feel /weird/ now.

That's interesting. The couple M&P9 (and a 9c) I had were worsened through shooting. The more they were shot, the less I could feel the trigger reset. I don't recall any changes to the trigger smoothing or lessening in pull-weight, but I remember the changes to the trigger reset. It was light to beg...

I really wanted the MCX to be an affordable alternative to the Honey Badger but it ended up being way too damn expensive to consider.

Re: Firearms Chat Part 2: Bullpups cause all the rage!

R51 recall, 887 recall, 700 trigger recall. I'm missing one, I think. I haven't been impressed with Remington enough to want to buy their stuff, although if they release the stock I might play with it. At least nothing here is their design. AR15 components are pretty well fleshed out - I don't see ...

I can find 300blk at Academy Sports, Bass Pro, Cabelas, and even my local WAL MART (!) had some on the shelves last week when I looked. When Wal Mart carries it, I figure it's probably safe enough. Dedicated AR or simply a complete upper... up to you. I have a low weight adjustable trigger in my 300...

Re: How Long Will Guns Last?

I'd say the cartridge has the biggest effect. I am /reasonably sure/ that velocity is the biggest factor. However, I'm not sure if it's velocity, or if it's pressure that directly erodes barrels faster. Maybe it's both. I just know that when you see "FPS" climbing past 3k, barrel life diminishes qui...

Re: Firearms Chat Part 2: Bullpups cause all the rage!

The pistol/shotgun issue is less about shouldering/VFGs, and more about "it has a smooth bore" There is only two definitions for a smooth bore weapon, I think. Shotgun and SBShotgun. Well... destructive device too I guess, but that takes other considerations. So I think it's just because a shotgun d...

Re: Are there any sources for AOW double barreled shotguns?

Can you form 1 an AoW? Then you just buy a virgin receiver and register is right away as a AoW. That's how I did my SBRs, never built them as anything except an SBR. I'm not sure if you can 4473 as a receiver at point of purchase, ask you FFL. Finding a bare-receiver shotgun that's never been built...
