Re: Ares Armor Rudius 1911 Build

I did have to hand fit a lot of the pieces. I did not even bother to drill the roll pin for the ejector, just loctite. I pretty much anticipated tight tolerances on pretty much every aspect of the build. I own a custom cabinetry business, and we do the same thing with our pieces that we wont be inst...

Re: Ares Armor Rudius 1911 Build

I'd like to do soemthign like this some day. Either a 1911 form scratch, or a home made Glock. Give 3D printers 5 - 10 more years. Once the materials are stronger, doing a polymer Glock will be a button push. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2013/07/18/diy-iron-glock/ Whelp.... I am off to the ga...

Re: Ares Armor Rudius 1911 Build

The fit on the grip safety seems a tad off  I know. For some reason the folks at Wilson Combat decided to come out with a universal beaver tail grip safety. Instead of finding the 1911 with the largest frame and going off that. It seems like their engineers just said "screw it", and made the ...

Re: Ares Armor Rudius 1911 Build

I agree, this had to be a lot of fun. I suppose I need a c&c machine in my spare bedroom now... Nah, you would not need a CNC. Ares also sells a jig that you can use. It can either be completed on a manual mill or a drill press. The drill press would be a last resort though. They are not exactly ma...

Ares Armor Rudius 1911 Build

Well about a year ago I pre ordered one of the 1911 kits from Ares Armor. I built it about six months ago, but with the birth of my daughter I never got the chance to write anything up. Well Nanny is watching my little lady, so I figured I would write it up really quick. This will pretty much be a g...

Re: The Beekeeping Thread (Pic heavy) - Updated OP

Rossboy, welcome to beekeeping! I am envious that you are starting with established hives. I am curious why you have your hives so high up. It seems like they would be difficult to access up there. HI, and thank you! I did get a little lucky to be able to get some established hives. My friend is a ...

Re: The Beekeeping Thread (Pic heavy) - Updated OP

After a crazy year of moving, and my wife giving birth to our beautiful daughter. I finally got around to converting the old rabbit hutch on the "farm" to a temporary platform for my new girls. We got 2 hives recently from a friend who has been beekeeping for several years now, and instructing me. H...

Re: Bug out bag... Does it matter?

Since you are so observant, spend some time and look around. I have. That's why I'm posting. There are all manner of surplus gear being toted around or worn by people. As to your North Face bag (High speed, low drag), I see North Face or any of the top name brands sold in REI and I say to myself th...

Bug out bag... Does it matter?

Something has always "bugged" me about bug out bags. I like to think of myself as a practical individual, one who can look at both sides of the situation and make a call based off of what I observe. I've had quite a bit of training on how to accomplish this task. So, on to the real meat of this post...

Re: How far away is you Bug out Location?

I tend to lean more toward the bug-in-location. Leaving a location is always sketchy. No amount of prep can account for unforeseen variables that will arise if indeed shtf. You can only plan for what you know, and traveling opens you up to so much you don't. For example, traveling by someones BOL th...

Re: How does your garden grow: 2012 Edition!

Glad to see people getting back to the land. That being said here are a few pictures of the 'stead this year. Between restoring our "new" c. 1764 farmhouse to her former glory, and working stupid hours, we decided to go small our first year. The barn will be up next month, and that means chickens an...

Re: Perfect zombie defense house.

Im gonna go out on a limb and say that this is the best zombie defense house ever! http://unseenlibrarian.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/zombie-treadmill.jpg No but seriously. This is my vacation house on the Delaware River. It happens to be in a flood plain, so we had to raise it to about 25ft above t...
