Thanks for the story, Kathy; it's definitely worth any wait. Good stuff. Can't wait to see what the guys have been cooking up all this time.

Re: Quality vs. Quantity

GunsUp basically said it all, but I'd like to add: Know when to go for quality, and when it doesn't matter much. To basically directly contradict what Dukman said (not on purpose, I assure you, sir, just my opinion), in foods and in medicines is one of the many times I don't worry about name-brand (...

Re: Shaving?

I currently use an old-timey double-edge/DE/safety razor along with a bar of shave soap and a brush for all my hair-removal needs. Very cheap in the long run as far as the consumables go (17 cents per blade and $1-$2 for a shave soap puck), and you can stock up on those quite easily. I use one for t...

Re: A friend's son suspended from school for being prepared...

Nothing irritates me more than dealing with bureaucracies like the school system, which is why I'm infinitely grateful to have been homeschooled, and infinitely grateful to have the ability to homeschool my kids when I have them.

Great start, I appreciate the work going into getting these updates planned and thought out; you're going far above and beyond what anyone can expect for a free story published on a zombie forum on your own free time.

Yeah, those pictures reminded me greatly of the Tom Brown Tracker. But if you're looking for something cool to play with (which I'm guessing you are), go for the Kukri.

Re: Neighbors dogs charging my children

It's good to know that you waited until there were real signs of aggression before taking action, as a dog barking and running towards you is not necessarily aggressive. A mailman came into the yard and our adolescent (and neutered) male basset hound ran up to him barking. He was basically just stan...

Re: Zombieland..

Am I the only person suspiciously reminded of Doc66's Owen when they see the commercials for this movie? Namely, of course, the cowboy hat and the whole comment about how his mother used to ask what he was good at, and now he knows he was meant to kill zombies all along.

Re: Rewriting the law (Basic rules of conduct for party members)

I always considered the 10 Commandments to be more of a set of guidelines for personal responsibility, and not so much a set of mandatory laws, but a big +1 to the Constitution. Really, though, I think most laws should just be an extension of the Golden Rule.

I can't believe I read the whole thing. I should've gone to bed two hours ago, but my body wouldn't let me. The only thing it wanted was...was... mM M M M MOOOAARRR! Seriously, though, Kathy, the story is very enjoyable, and easily the best zombie or suvival story I've read, published or not. The pa...

Re: The 'pharmacuticals are good' thread

If someone uses teas and supplements and other traditional (traditional as in used by people for centuries kind of traditional) medicines to much positive personal affect, particularly if said person is often allergic to most modern medicines, I won't knock it. It's the same way I expect people not ...

Re: some help here on military gear vs civilian

[Edit]Sorry, severely misread your post. Search around for local shops. Mil-surplus places can sometimes be hard to find, look on Google Maps or something and you should find one in your area. For camping places, try Dick's Sporting Goods and REI, or a local store if there's one nearby. Don't disreg...

Re: I haz a Meat Cleaver!!!

Unless the handles are really loose and cracked, I'd just lightly sand them and rub them with vegetable oil. If the cleaver was well-made and the handles are nice and tight without any obvious gaps between the handle slabs and the tang, I seriously doubt there'd be near enough rust to bother with re...

Re: Mantracker 36hr pack.

If you think you're lacking in potassium and sugars, buy some powdered Gatorade or similar electrolyte sports drink. NFA suggests doubling the water in the suggested water-to-powder ratio in the instructions, and I think I'd have to second that if you were planning on drinking it the whole 36 hours.

I'm all for herbal remedies, and use them often for a variety of reasons (they're cost-effective, easier on the liver, growing your own medicine is self-sufficient, et cetera), but for FAK purposes, there's a definite limit to what can be replaced. Allergy medicine, painkillers and anti-diarrheal me...

If you really want to prepare for an economic collapse, your video leads me to believe your mind's geared the wrong way. But don't get down in the dumps about it, at least your friends who ar...
