Re: Now burglars wear body armor, I'm going to...

In all seriousness, I have done some room clearing in bad neighborhoods. I would be scared to death to clear those houses with 2 rounds of birdshot being the first thing I could use. I have seen how effective 5.56 is against people at close distance. I know first hand, that it is indeed effective, ...

Re: Now burglars wear body armor, I'm going to...

Someone breaking into my house with a gun is a combatant as far as I'm concerned. Oh, and it wasn't my living room or kitchen but I guess it was someone's at some point in time  Sure, Dave. Whatever you say. You claim to have some sort of affiliation with the military. You claim to have been e...

Re: Now burglars wear body armor, I'm going to...

Maetsack I think that is a good summary of the discussion. I still do not think the concerns you listed outweigh birdshots ballistic mediocrity, but I see where you are coming from. Thanks. I'm comfortable with my choices and strategy and while I hope to never require it, I believe it will work for...

Re: First Go Bag- UC Berkeley Student!

Very good start. Now you mentioned you have will be traveling max 20 miles. Do you have someplace specific to go like a friend or relative's house? Don't go without a plan. If you don't, rethink your plan - it might still work, you just need to think to the next step. If you do have a location to go...

Re: Now burglars wear body armor, I'm going to...

The only exceptions are if you live in a country that does not permit buck shot. I agree with you, birdshot might kill someone, within 5 yards, if shot in the neck. My .223 might not kill someone, but I'd be amazed if he lived after I triple tap him in the chest. I just remembered the no flame rule...

Me too - we were just starting to see eye to eye. :D Live and let live, Dave. May you win every gunfight you are ever in. I have every confidence that you will. I see this as a cop out perpetuated by mods. If you have anything more to say, send it to my PM box. That goes for anyone else. I'll be ha...

You certainly never gave me the impression you were pissed - I just didn't want to give you the impression that I was ragging on you.

It's all good man. Just make sure you protect yourself. I'd hate to hear about you landing in some shit because of some chucklehead.

Where does he mention load? He talks primarily about shot placement and continuing until the threat is done. That's all good, my friend.

What would you like me to address?

Re: Firearm Mounted Anti Zombie Device/pics and a vid

Each sale comes with a liability release form. The translation from 2 pages of leagalies is basically. "This product is dangerous, use at your own risk. We are not responsible for you being an idiot." I already had a suspicious buyer pop up. Once I mailed the liability release form I never heard an...

Dave. C'mon. You want us to believe that you didn't take a shot like that just to shut him down? You really think we're that stupid? Call a spade a spade - you wanted to assert your credibility over his. Ironic, given that the vast majority of your training was achieved without you getting shot and ...

I think he was trying to imply that getting your information from a book or tv show going to lend less credibility to your statements. For example you can read all day how to mitigate a reaction to recoil, or how to flip a man in Akido, but until you've put it to practice it doesn't do much for you...

You know this from what? Your vast experience watching television? Do I wear a seat belt because I live in "fear" of a car accident? Of course not. I wear a seat belt so that if I get into a car wreck I won't go flying through the windshield. Something about an ounce of prevention.... Sometimes I wonder why you bother even owning a gun--I mean, it's not likely any...

Re: Firearm Mounted Anti Zombie Device/pics and a vid

I lugged it around at a gunshow for 6 hours. Lets just say after lugging bodyarmour, ACH, a SAW and a full load of water and ammo for 16 hours during a 120 degree day in Iraq.... The chainsaw on a AR ain't shit. Forgive us if we don't think that is an unbiased opinion. - - So, just out of curiosity...

Man, the bullshit is flying on this one! So let me get this straight, we are presuming the following: - Every burglar is hopped up on adrenaline and meth and possibly Red Bull at all times and are therefore impervious to pain and shock. - But they have their shit together enough to make logical deci...

Re: Comments on a few essentials

Squirrley - So your BOB or INCH is designed on the principle of bugging out to either a specific or non-specific location. I guess that's where I get bogged down. Most people have a BOL in mind, usually a relative or friend. Now that location should be sufficiently far enough away to remove you from...

All I'm saying is, if you shoot me with a gun. Any kind of ammo that breaks the skin. I'll shis my pants and do whatever you say. I bet any of you who've never been shot would do the same. If you catch a load of birdshot with your chest you won't be thinking "Hah! This won't slow me down!" And that...

Re: Comments on a few essentials

I have to ask, why are you getting so bent out of shape over semantics? I mean, does it really matter? It's like you're totally missing the actual point of the discussion: preparation. It also sounds like you're taking the term far too literally. So, many people like to have shared terminology to m...

Re: Should I buy this for my kit? Tomahawk !!

If you are rich, buy it. You won't care that you almost never use it. On the plus side, it looks cool. If you are not rich, don't buy it. The price point is pretty high for a tool like that, especially given there are numerous less expensive alternatives that do the same job. This advice applies to ...

Re: Comments on a few essentials

INCH - Ever heard of an expedition pack? INCH - Ever heard of becoming suddenly homeless? A BOB is a 3-5 day affair, pack accordingly (think of it as a 3 Day Assault pack), you shouldn't need hunting weapons for example. An INCH is for unknown ongoing duration. You will need hunting/fishing/etc gea...

Re: Now burglars wear body armor, I'm going to...

This reminds me of the 22LR argument which can be ended by saying it's all about shot placement . I have birdshot, buckshot and slugs on deck in my shotgun and every one of them will be aimed at a home invader's face - not his chest, not his knees - his face. I'm not really all that worried about th...

Re: How are you practicing if you can't hit a range

I think the OP makes a great point - there is nothing wrong with practicing with airsoft as long it isn't the only thing you practice with. Who gives a shit if you can't practice everything - you can still practice some things and that better than nothing.
