Consider Shoemaker–Levy, which hit Jupiter back in 1994. Despite the gravity of Jupiter, which is much more than Earth, NASA recorded explosions that went significantly above the “surface” of the planet.

Re: Water from the air
Notes I collected a long time ago... ___________________ Water Collection from "Dry" Air. Before modern dehumidifiers, there were methods shown usefull in precipitating water from the air. Dew ponds appear to predate history. They are large but shallow artificial pools, smooth rock to protect the wa...

Our present “just in time” delivery system is essentially always on the verge of failure. Our physical infrastructure has deteriorated. Our economy is a joke and the dollar is an illusion. Most levels of government are bankrupt. We are a net importer of almost everything (i.e. fuel, food, clothing, ...

If I read the document at the link correctly, it would seem that fish antibiotics, a popular aspect of “prepper” lore, will as of this coming January require all to go to a veterinarian and get a prescription to make a purchase. http://www.fda.gov/animalveterinary/developmentapprovalprocess/ucm48210...

The wife and I are both retired federal civil service, living off the tax donations and debt of working US workers. We know this can not continue indefinitely and are planning / acting accordingly.

Re: Keeping the toilet running while bugging in....
Have had personal observation of sewage “collection” failure. At the last place we rented, power was out for a while. The water kept flowing. Our house was downhill, something like 40 foot or more elevation difference from the houses up hill. People kept flushing. Eventually the collection and pumpi...

Like most things, it depends… Iodine is to “fill up” the thyroid gland to prevent it from absorbing radioactive iodine from the environment. There may be other substances to “pre fill” other organs. There appear to be chelation procedures to help the body rid itself of various substances that may be...

A zombie does not feel pain, nor care about wounds to tissue that do not physically prevent the zombie from continuing “efficient” pursuit, grabbing, or chewing. If the former human is a zombie because the higher brain functions are gone, and it’s just the primitive reptile brain functioning, “killi...

If not close enough for the actual explosion, or the pyroclastic flow, then the threat is the ash fall, being smashed when a roof collapses, or what may be worse, inhaling the dust and either slowly suffocating or rapidly developing a debilitating lung disease. http://ashfall.unl.edu/life_death.html...

The diesel was developed at the end of the 1800’s. The steam engine in the early 1700’s. I sure hope we don’t drop back further than that.

Stuff - If you are going to need something “down the road”, and can buy it now for later use, there is a good chance it will be a better “investment” than normal investments. Buying food on sale, in bulk cuts down on overall food costs. (One of our “highest return” investments for the past few years...
