Published my 13th novel, a sequel to Dream
Not exactly a post-apoc novel, but I published Dream II: The Realm, a sequel to my successful novel Dream.
Its available on Amazon. Its also my 13th novel.
I don't mean to blow my own trumpet, but I don't get many opportunities to start a thread on this board.

Smoking after dark is just asking to die.
And smoking on guard is a bad idea, too.

Re: writing book have a question
Growing up in North Dakota we used the plastic bread bag trick mentioned, but I should qualify a point: that was in an environment when re-entering a warmth was expected. Just hiking through snow will not cause the snow/ice on the outside of the boot to thaw, so there's not a lot of need for a moist...

Re: 60,000 antelopes died in 4 days - and no one knows why
Could be wrong, though - so I fully support space exploration and developments along those lines. Putting eggs in other baskets sounds like a good idea to me. See, that's exactly why I oppose space exploration: because we live in a desert of dead rocks, generations removed from extra-planeta...

Back on track here is the latest one, time to get your flashlights and batteries ready. NASA has confirmed that the Earth will experience 15 days of total darkness between November 15 and November 29, 2015. The event, according to NASA, hasn’t occurred in over 1 Million years. http://www.timesofedu...

Re: Crowd crush during Hajj in Mecca
My takeaway: avoid big crowds, especially fervent crowds of the type found at religious pilgrimage destinations, political rallies and protests, pop concerts, and holiday sales events. Add: European soccer matches. Thinking of Hillsborough ? British crowd management has since been much improved, no...

They're still Stone Age primitives. They did make amazing advances in Human sacrifice, but that's hardly a qualification for a move up the tech tree. As to upgrading them, I am of the school who see it as an attempt by said researchers to upgrade their own status by glorifying the topic of their Do...

Re: Advice for the Big Move
I never went the roommate route (unless you count females). That never appealed to me. Forget a wok. Get a microwave. A microwave is a bachelor's best friend. Then find a girlfriend who can cook. That is crucial, because passion fades over time but cooking skills only improve. The key to a lasting r...

Re: Sept 23: what's the big deal?
For example, the Mayan calendar: people actually believed that Stone Age primitives who hadn't mastered the wheel could accurately calculate the future of the world. That is not a real accurate portrait of the Mayan culture. The Mayan calendar is actually more accurate than our current calender. Th...

Re: Advice for the Big Move
The big points have been hit, but I'll throw in a small one: when renting an apartment, ask for a top floor. its tougher lugging your stuff, but break-ins are dramatically less, and water leaks do much less damage. If you're at the top and a water line breaks, you take floor-level water damage, but ...

OK, that makes sense. Thanks!crypto wrote:I think it depends entirely on the system, to be honest. We had a bunch of financial stuff, vertical applications that in testing went completely bonkers when it rolled over, and other stuff, like operating systems, just hiccuped and moved along.

I'll add to the nix on road flares. Use cylumes/glow sticks-no fire issues. I wouldn't trade a bundle of good road flares for anything. You can't see a glow stick at a safe enough distance at highway speeds. you can barely see them at all in heavy rain or fog or when its snowing. Flares are visible...

Y2K: Anyone with any computer sense laughed; and it came to pass.... nothing. Y2K was a non-event because tens of thousands of professionals like myself worked a lot of overtime to get a lot of shit straightened out in time to avoid widespread disruption. Re: DONT USE A POLICE BATON
I have carried an impact weapon of one sort or another for nearly three decades, and have used various types on numerous occasions. Frankly, it is one of the least useful things I could imagine for a disaster event, and even less for a zombie outbreak. We (the police) carry them because of restricti...

Re: Sept 23: what's the big deal?
Its 1915hrs in Abu Dhabi. Do you suppose the end of the world takes into account Daylight Savings? Will it be based upon the date in First World or Third World states? That's the thing about writing fiction: it forces you to examine the logistics of things. For example, the Mayan calendar: people ac...

The thing about cannibalism is that by the time you reach that stage your target source will likely be malnourished, so even if you avoid the health issues involved, your calorie intake will be small. Its the same thing if you ate a starving cow. For me, survival isn't worth all that much. Self-defe...

I'll add to the nix on road flares. Use cylumes/glow sticks-no fire issues. A reflective vest is a must, the brighter the better. Unless they are bleeding out or the vehicle is on fire, don't move victims, leave that for the professionals. The biggest help you can do for the police is start taking p...

Witcher 3 on a PS4. I played the original Witcher on the PC, tried W2 on the Xbox 360 and didn't like it, but W3 is almost as good as Skyrim. I'm going to go back to Fallout 3 as prep for Fallout 4 soon. I've finished Fallouts 1,2, Brotherhood of Steel, and all variable endings on F3. FNV I finished...

Re: What would you do if your house was squatted??
Well... in my leases the doors are listed as appliances that can be removed at landlords discression. So to evict people we have removed the doors for "maintenance" which really motivated the tenants to move as it was winter and the average temp was pretty darn cold without a door. I dealt with a s...

Well this link is to someone who wrote about it in 2011 and is updating his article. Note there are religious refere...
