Re: No, really honey, last one...I promise: Aereus Lev

If you can make a weight reduction concession over optimal performance, why not do a pistol length on the 14.5" or do your preferred mfr's not customize that? I'd go for mid length even though I'd never reach the round count for the wear difference to make a difference over carbine length. What is ...

Re: No, really honey, last one...I promise: Aereus Lev

Not much progress since the last update... In fact, I’ve hit a couple significant road blocks. First off, the V7 parts came in last week, and I finally broke out one of my spare BCM bolts to get the actual weight. Re: Feels like it’s time to start stocking the caches...

...another option is to sell enough to pay for some NFA items; already ordered one new can last week, and likely another today after I get a couple hours sleep...just home from work; still working nights.

And maybe some decent night vision/thermal imaging gear too. Relatively available right now.

Re: Feels like it’s time to start stocking the caches...

Anyone considering selling some of their stores right now? Prices are unreal...I’m seriously thinking of cashing out a big chunk to build a detached garage with a small 1 bedroom guest house at our new place that’s nicer and on more land, but a lot smaller than our old house. I’d consider using it ...

Looking back on this thread, it’s clear I misunderestimated the impact of a contested election. And especially the Orwellian deplatforming of anything and anyone not in agreement with the party line. I’ll stop there because that’s not the point of this entry. Anyone considering selling some of thei...

Re: No, really honey, last one...I promise: Aereus Lev

Was putting stuff away before hittin’ the hay and decided to weigh the bits I have in hand for this build so far all at the same time. Detents and associated springs not included (you can see them in the plastic bag along with the ‘real’ parts that’ll go into the MoA lower), but the steel hand guard...

Re: Press therapy - reloading room *chat*

Still at the point where I’m basically just moving piles of stuff from one side of the new garage to the other, but finally got one of the quick change base plates I snagged from Inline Fabrication mounted: https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-GdHKmGn/0/50c1f44f/XL/i-GdHKmGn-XL.jpg Routed out part of...

Re: No, really honey, last one...I promise: Aereus Lev

A couple parts came in today... Snagged a lower parts kit from New Frontier for about the same price as a set of springs...I needed some of the parts and spares anyway and wanted to try out the polymer detents too. After looking at the kit though, I decided to run a bit farther down the polymer rabb...

No real progress, but finally through our busy season at work and took tonight off to burn down some vacation time and kick off a 4-day weekend! Have a titanium grip bolt on hand, but snagged a bag of 100 (!) nylon 1/4-28x1” bolts for just a couple bucks. Will start off with one of these when the lo...

Re: The New & Improved, "What have you done to your AR today" thread

So, with the addition of my new light (Crimson Trace CWL-202) I'm trying to decide what my next addition/upgrade on the AR should be. http://i.imgur.com/t1UYoHCl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/z9a2GDSl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/z0HNgYml.jpg http://i.imgur.com/gQV3Mfbl.jpg My budget is small to almost nothing,...

Quick update before I finish my next beverage and likely lose my ability to produce coherent posts...LOL. Since I didn’t account for the hand guard fasteners in my spreadsheet, I grabbed some aluminum machine screws as one option to bring this build back down under 3.5# total (without a tax stamp). ...

Re: "Boring" but necessary

I keep spares for pretty much every firearm part...especially AR components...and my issue is storage. My problem is that ‘spare parts’ all too often magically begin to aggregate and before I know it, I have another rifle in the safe. Then I get a bigger safe...that also fills up. And the cycle cont...

Re: No, really honey, last one...I promise: Aereus Lev

Going further down the lightweight AR rabbit hole, would you save weight with a carbon fiber barrel ? I seem to recall there being a couple makers showing off carbon fiber barrels at a couple past SHOT Shows, but I can't remember the company names right at the moment. Surprisingly, likely not. I lo...

Quick update... A couple parts came in while I was at work last night and I’m beat, so just a couple quick pics before I crash for a few hours. Re: Most common ammo's in US?

Saw a lot of the 350 Legend as well...and nothing else really, for a long time around here. It was enough that I bought some, and some dies to reload the brass (uses what are essentially 9mm bullets). Can’t find a barrel anywhere though, so I’ve not built an upper for it yet. And then last Friday th...

Yup...I may try to dry tumble some of the rounds with walnut shells instead of ss pins in my brass tumbler and see what happens.

Re: Firearms CHAT: [2020 - Year of the Squib]

So a (non-gun owner) co-worker asked me to take a huge tote of ammo off his hands...he found it in a shed on his property he got from his wife’s family. Mostly shotgun shells...410, 20, and 12-gauge...plus some really gross-looking .22LR and .45 ACP and some 30-06 too. Found one 220 swift round too,...

Re: Most common ammo's in US?

Just saw this thread was active again...nice! If I go off what I can find in stock, the most common ammo in the state of Texas is 35 Whelen; it was literally the only thing left on the shelf at my local Academy Sports earlier this week...and sadly only one box of that. Pretty crazy that even the odd...

...I also have color coded magazines and AR furniture for 5.56 vs 300 blackout. Anyone in my family can tell with a glance which AR takes which loaded magazine even if they don't recognize the specific rifle. I have no interest in wrecking a 5.56 barrel by accidently grabbing a magazine loaded with...

Re: How many mags do you consider "enough" for each gun?

@Brekar: if you had that many ftf malfunctions, and it’s certain it was the ammo (same weapon fired in same configuration with other ammo with no issues), the manufacturer will definitely want to see that ammo and replace it for you. When I was having issues with one of my rifles shortly after 300BL...

Yeah I’m finding it somewhat difficult to even find components for some loads. Yes, I’m looking at you Small Pistol Primers! Thank God I’m still stacked deep in my most oft-loaded calibers, just did another 50 rounds of 300BLK with the last of my 110gr Barnes black tips over H110 powder. Went a litt...
