Re: "wild meat" in the city

I have been trying to think out of the box lately and so far I have found the 5 Gallon Squirrel Trap and 2 traditional snares: a squirrel pole, and a bird snare I think these would be extremely helpful in Urban Survival situations. I do worry about disease from the handling of Urban Pests like mice,...

Re: SHTF while I'm teaching

Im not sure about your school but I know that many towns during disaster evacuate to their schools. Also the CDC, FEMA, and other disaster relief groups set up shop in them regularly. If government infrastructure fails I would feel it to be my obligation to take on whatever children I could; having ...

Re: Street Defense

I think I would clown on them until they advanced or digressed. Works in the prison Im sure it would work on the street as well. I have been a victim of a knife robbing funny thing about knife robbings is that they have to at some point turn around. Guns are a different story you have to first close...

JimmyJack no brains , no guts, hungry zombies.

Hi everyone, I have made a few posts on the forumns, have been reading threads, and laughing at comments for about 2 months now. I guess you could say Im a long time listener first time caller. I began to involve myself in disaster preparedness after Hurricane Ivan and Hurricane Katrina. However, wh...

Re: Bug out or hunker down

I also live in rural South MS and have been preparing contigency plans for both scenarios. I beleive that bugging out is the most efficient idea for me. However, remembering the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina I am reminded of the streets filled with cars and buses, stuck for days. Even more disturbi...

Re: Can you deal with infections w/o perscriptions?

Not sure if warts are an infection or not but... My family always tells this story of how my great grandfather used to cure warts with a potatoe. Dont peel it and make sure it has plenty of eyes and rub it on the wart. Then bury the potatoe, if the potatoe grows your warts go away. I know it sounds ...

Re: 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment

The prisons are normaly understaffed in fact where I work in my area of the prison we have 25 Corrections Officers to 1036 offenders. Insane right? Dunno who exactly signs your paycheck, but if you were a "correction" corporation that wanted to maximize profits you'd want as many people incarcerate...

Re: Infographic: Are Guns & Ammo the New Gold?

I believe that as useability follows gold is not nearly as valuable as Ammo. I believe that a bullet is worth more then a loaf of bread in these times. I can kill large game with just 1 round of 7.62 and I might be able to take a squirrel with a gold nugget. Ammo for trade or gold for trade in 2011 ...

Re: 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment

Im a Correctional Officer in the largest prison in my state which just so happens to be located in small town America. I have been in Corrections for nearly 6 years and you would be suprised at the number of people and the age of people in Security Threat Groups(STG's). Almost everyone in prison is ...

Re: Medicine Identification

Thanks for the welcome. Something else I have been looking for is a good up to date reference book for plants and herbs that can be used to treat minor ailments. Havent found one that isnt based only in certain regions, nor have I found one that isnt the size of an encyclopedia. If anyone knows woul...

Medicine Identification

The basic triage is something that everyone should have and what to have should be fairly easy to figure out (antiseptic, gauze, tape, and more gauze). However even the most seasoned veteran, huntsman, or recreational pioneer can fall hazard to broken, limb, or a severe infection. Whether you are in...

Re: Arming Family Based On Military Squad?

I think this is a profund idea one that any family can practice so long as your children are mature enough Im not saying they have to be teenagers they just have to be responsible. Many times children luckily in America today have little responsiblity other then playing with their toys. Adding some ...
