Re: Hammock Camping Questions

I've used and loved hammocks for years, the only problem or concern I haven't seen addressed so far in the thread is the dreaded armadillo. Pitch your hammock high enough to avoid them swear to god if one pokes you in the ass at 2 in the morning while your out cold and maybe after a few beers aroun...

Re: Water Bladder - Why don't more people use them?

Definitely a pain to clean. But can usually water the whole family for short day hikes. I have a couple source bladders, one of which is new, the other gets used on a weekly basis when we go up to the bush for hikes or shooting. So far its held up well, although I haven't used it in sub zero conditi...

Re: Flashlight recommendations?

You could get a fenix ld12 with a red filter adapter. I have a ld10 (older model slightly less lumens, but still a great light) and like it a lot. Compact, runs on one AA, IPX-8 water resistance, multiple brightness levels.

Re: sicsiksix's BOB (in progress...)

I made the paracord spool up myself (used an old electrical solder spool I had laying around in the garage, cut a 1/4" section of it out length-wise and slide it over the biner, then wrapped). As for the fire kit, I keep it in a pelican 1010 case which resides in the front pouch on the pack under th...

Re: sicsiksix's BOB (in progress...)

They attach alright, clips on the bottom and top, would be better if they had molle webbing the full length of the back tho. They seem to stay put alright, I used the webbing from the clip to help secure it in the back so I don't think they are going anywhere. I paid $27.99 a piece for them, I had a...

Re: ponchos... a consolidated thread.

Speaking of ponchos, I was looking a few days ago at the integral designs models. What are others opinions on the long-term durability of the Sil-Nylon vs the Urethane Coated Ripstop Nylon (Using as both a tarp and a poncho, and not running through thorn bushes)? I can get either model for the same ...

Re: sicsiksix's BOB (in progress...)

bump  FWIW BTW, I just got a canteen kit to molle to my new EDC bag, and upon some tinkering I realized the outside lower pockets on the gunslinger II pack are sized and designed for USGI canteens, :D this should not be too much of a surprise since the packs are generally designed and used by ...

Re: sicsiksix's BOB (in progress...)

Interesting set up with the spools of tape and paracord, not sure I have ever seen that before. Are those industrial strength spools? How much does the full pack weigh? Regarding the FAK, I would add a few more bandages unless I missed something. Very interesting overall set up. The spools are just...

Re: Save money with off the shelf FAK's to use as a base?

I too use the Adventure Medical Kits. I have a Hunter's kit in my BOB and my woman has a Adventure Medical 0.9 Ultra-lite kit in hers. Seem to be great kits, although I've yet to use either of them (hope to keep it that way). They are not too expensive either. Think I paid $50 for the hunters kit an...

sicsiksix's BOB (in progress...)

Well I figured I should post up some pictures and list of what I have in my bag right now. Basically I'm planning to go do some backpacking this year, and some hunting next fall, so it has to get me by for 3-4 days in the back country. When I'm not out with it, it will live in the closet with the re...

Thanks for the input guys. I do order a lot of stuff from MEC (at least once a month) I have looked at their bags, just couldn't decide on one just by looking online. Maybe I'll have to spend some more time there. I'm trying to get my hands on a surplus USGI poncho or two, but they seem to be hard t...

Re: I need a new flashlight

I warrantied a LD10 that had a terrible inductor whine. I emailed their service center and gave them the serial number, they directed me to fenixtactical.com (that's the Canadian warranty shop). Had to pay shipping one way, but had a new one in my hand within a week that had no inductor whine at all.

Anyone got one of these yet? Looks like a nice little package. Wonder how tight the ferro rod is and if its prone to fall out.
