Re: Kaboomed my Beretta 96 :(

I have to give a +1 to the "get it looked at" consensus. The last thing you want is to finish rebuilding it only to have it blow up on you again and possibly hurt someone. Glad you came out of it unharmed.

Questions about moving to Greenville, NC area

The wife and her mother and I will all be moving to the Greenville, NC area sometime this summer for a 2 year stay while I do my master's degree, after which I hope to go to the Triangle to do my PhD. My questions for those of you from the area: Is the crime really as bad as people claim? How is the...

"firearm accessories that you want that are not on the market" Magazines and ammo QFT. I've been trying to find 10 round mags for my 10/22 for 2 months, even offering to trade my 2 25 round Hot Lips mags for 3 factory 10 rounders (I keep catching the end of them on things and unseating them), nothi...

Re: Debating between Beretta 92 and Taurus PT92

Sorry, the training thing was me just remembering the good old days. If you like the 92/M9, I say go for it. Fuckloads of cheap mags and gear for it (being a major service pistol for a few decades does that) and the kinks are certainly well known. Upgrade the sights and get the A1 (light rail) mode...

Re: Debating between Beretta 92 and Taurus PT92

The debate seems to have gone from Beretta 92 v Taurus PT92 to Glock 19 v Glock 19 with questioning of my sanity. I cede the point on sanity. But my primary reasoning for shying away from Glock as a previous Glock owner myself is weight. I prefer the 92/M9 over the Glock for two reasons, the first a...

Re: Debating between Beretta 92 and Taurus PT92

If you don't want the Glock route, there's also the Sig 226, CZ75 and P01, and the M9. Personally I like the M9 and I'll probably get one eventually. I have to work on the ergos (thumb broke and didn't heal right, so manual safeties are a fucking bitch) but I think that unless you get one from a un...

Debating between Beretta 92 and Taurus PT92

A bit of background: At the end of this summer I will be moving with Mrs. Ansgar and her mother from St. Louis to eastern NC to pursue an offer of admission for my master's degree. We will be moving to an area with considerably higher crime per capita (mostly nonviolent, but a conspicuous number of ...

Re: Pistol recommendations for small handed shooter?

Sorry it's been a while since I last updated, but we made a day of going to the LGSs (5 of them) so she could fondle guns while I looked for a holster to fit my revolver (got lucky on some noname adjustable - $17). After being handed mousegun after mousegun in a succession of increased annoyance to ...

well I was just at my local walmart...they now have the sign taped up on the glass display..."ONLY TWO BOXES OF AMMO PER PERSON PER DAY...NO EXCEPTIONS". And of course, the display case was completely empty so go figure the irony in that one. I think I am as about frustrated here as anyone else. I ...

Re: Pistol recommendations for small handed shooter?

Thanks for the great responses so far. I gathered a bit of additional data in the name of science (and considerations). Her main problem with my Smith is the distance from the web of the thumb to the trigger while holding it. In SA, she can reach it just fine at a distance of 2 3/8", but in DA, she ...

Pistol recommendations for small handed shooter?

I have a S&W Military & Police that I love and refuse to part with. My problem is that Mrs. Ansgar has wee little hands that can't reach the trigger in DA, so she has to manually cock the hammer before every shot. She does not like shooting, but understands that she may someday have to defend hersel...

I'm surprised you still have your wallet or other valueable. That was a classic attempt to get your attention while an accomplice goes for your wallet or what ever. I realize it's not one of the vehicles you mentioned, but I've had a Jeep Patriot for about 6 months now and love it. I get 26 mpg with a 50/50 city/highway mix and even though mine is the base model (Sport), it handles offroad pretty well. I took it on a hilly dirt trail and forded a small creek wi...

Re: Good long range, large caliber rifle.

The 50BMG is never going to win any accuracy competitions. Not to be an ass, but just as a point of counterargument on this, as it is my belief that training, skill and compensation for the firing environment make a considerable difference in accuracy that can, in some (not all or even most, but SO...

I own a revolver, a 6" Smith & Wesson Military & Police in .38spl from the late 1940s/early 1950s. I keep it in my nightstand with a speedloader. I love my revolver and it's been dead nuts reliable for me. That said, I am saving up to get a Beretta M9 for several reasons, some of which are: Capacity...

Yes, State fish and game does support my right to kill it... I am too close to other homes to get away with more than one gunshot though... The first thing I'd do is [moved to WWYD] Personally, I'd kill everyone. Oh, wait, there was a scenario there, right? Keltec .32. Some day I will buy a Kel-tec .32 just to have it. What we'd all do... ETA: OT, I'd dress normally, but carry around the house. As far as barricading, I would probably p...
