Re: BOB - Gold and Silver

You'll get back more from your investment by trading junk gold rings than precious metal coins. Read some of FerFAL's accounts of Argentina after the economic collapse of 2001. IIRC, he said that everyone wanted gold (not silver) and that gold coins were far too valuable to use as payment for most t...

Re: Why does this guy have latex gloves on his feet?

Because the surgeon has a wicked sense of humour! Really sterile gloves are a quick way of covering the feet, especially the toes if they are going to be in the sterile field, as in this case. With the various crevices, nails etc they take a lot of cleaning and sterilising. If the surgeon req...

Re: Patient assessment sheets

If a patient is really sick you won't have time or opportunity to fill it in. I don't think the plan was to fill out the form completely for every emergency. I got the impression that it was to jot down whatever information you could scrape together at the scene, including eyewitness information in...

Re: Patient assessment sheets

Great idea and great work! I like that it's not too cluttered. I would recommend everyone have something like this in their FAK. The time you save the paramedics by gathering this information could free them up to better assist the patient. It could also give the ED staff a better report from the pa...

Re: The Gloria Fire -- Wildfire near my house (Pic Heavy)

I like how wildfires are so common in California that the sandwiches got more coverage in this thread than the fire.

Seriously though, great learning experience! This is why we needed a California chapter. This state is every kind of disaster waiting to happen. We gotta get folks prepared!

Re: surgicel

I got a couple packets of surgicel from a friend.I am not really sure what it is though. From what I have gathered it is like quick-clot.Am I correct? It's a very absorbent bandage/packing material that is used to control bleeding. The shredded cotton-candy consistency (minus the stickiness) helps t...

Re: Californians: Help Make Us Official!

Do you know if ZS is an actual public charity with a 501 (c) (3)? That could help if when donating, a vendor can write it off as a charitable contribution. Waiting on Michelle to get back to me on that. You'd think I'd know what kind of organization it was before I joined  Yes, ZS is a 501(c)(...

Ok, folks, I got this response from Michelle via email... Awesome! I can't wait for you guys to get going. Our only concern is that the President, Financial Officer, Third Officer set-up is a requirement. Our application had the three members listed as regional co-chairs. We need to have one head of...

Welcome, glad to see the CA numbers growing. Living in Oregon, I think that's the 1st time I've ever heard anyone say that. Yeah, Oregon is going to start patrolling their Southern border for runaway Californians. Welcome aboard, desert dog! Re: How do I convert pool water to perfectly drinkable water?

Dilute it down until the chlorine concentration is ok for drinking. The city tap water where I live is heavily chlorinated and besides the taste, it is perfectly potable. Unless the pool water tasted superchlorinated, you might not have to do anything to it at all. Be prepared for all the "pool wate...
