I was thinking this - even use them to move stuff in, put the food prep inside?

Re: Dry pet food prep

I usually keep a few months supply of dry cat food on hand (I buy up big when it goes on special). The brand that I buy has a best before date on it though, usually a year away from when I bought it. We're a bit low at the moment though because I'm switching their food on advice from their vet to so...

Re: Your Prepping Response to Recent Events

It did give me a reminder that we've slacked off on the prepping lately, so we're building up our food supplies again, and making sure everything gets rotated.

Re: Bugging Out with Pets - My Plan

I have given this problem a lot of thought and do not have better answer than putting my cats into the two largest carriers and then either put them on a bicycle or a wagon. In my case it possible I may have to walk to safety after a flooding event. In this event I would put the carriers on a boat ...

Re: Expensive Gas prep

If I've done the maths right, our current fuel prices in Australia are almost $6 a gallon at the moment (it costs me $65 to fill the tank of a Toyota Corolla, if that's any comparison help), the prices have doubled in the last ten years or so. Scooters and motorbikes did become more popular for city...

Re: 2012 - What are your prepping & contingency goals?

We need to continue to build our preps up, get our go bags finalised, and also redo all our plans to accommodate our new little human who will be arriving in July. I also need to get my garden restarted and happening better than this year. I'll be at home more often, but have less spare time, so not...

Re: I live on a Smallish Island POP = 500,000

If you're in Tassie, I'd just stay there. Food grows well there, I assume you don't have the same kind of water issues as the rest of Australia, and you'll be happily isolated and left alone for a while. The mainland would be a mess, and you guys have all the good cheese and beer. You should learn h...

Re: What Did You Do Today To Prepare?

We set up some storage shelves in the garage a few months ago and today at the shops we bought extra of food that was on sale to put in our storage. Baked beans were the cheapest I've seen them in a long time, so we got 24 cans (my husband kindly said that he wouldn't make fun of me for it).

Re: What canned goods do you stock and enjoy?

Heinz baked beans (has to be Heinz)
tinned corn
kidney beans
5 bean mix
tomatoes

They're the ones that I always grab to get more of when we're out shopping. I also keep soup on hand but we don't go through it as fast - I get the Big n Chunky kind, but can't remember what brand.

I would go with mushroom.

Well really I'd go with pineapple but that's not a veggie, so I'll say mushroom.

Re: Home grown sponge. The Luffa

I grow luffas - they're very interesting plants, and people are impressed when they see them growing and find out what they are. I sent a few people home with their own plants from a party that we had here. But I do always end up with more than I know what to do with - one day I'll have a bumper cro...

Re: WWYD: If you had to move countries, where would you go?

I'd need to go somewhere warm. If some of the pacific island nations looked like they wouldn't implode any time soon, I could head there (Vanuatu, maybe?). But probably I'd go to NZ - I'd need to be as far north as possible though, in order not to freeze during winter. ETA - where I went would depen...

Re: When people find out you're a prepper

We mostly get confusion. When the floods happened here earlier this year, we didn't have to go to the shops to get anything. We tried explaining that when asked about the flood supplies, but got, "But it didn't flood everywhere." "But the other shops were still option." "But it'll be fine." So usual...

Re: State distaster alert/preparedness website

I'm happy to see this website. The police did a good job during the floods and cyclones earlier in the year, they used facebook to dispel rumours and provide information on what is happening. Having everything from the multiple agencies all on one website will make it easier to get information. Now ...

I also wondered how they know the people they are sending through on each pilgermage are actually arriving where and when they are supposed to? How did the people in the future know what equipment and supplies to send in each pilgramage as well as waht experts to send. Or were they just making educ...

Re: "I want your headphones!" "Uhhh... who are you?"

I had something similar happen to me on a train - early in the morning, not many people on the train. I was sitting on my own in an area near the guard carriage (because it was so early I thought it was better to sit in a protected area). Two guys (still drunk from the night before, I think) got on ...
