Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

Inflation due to both rounds of quantitative easing has been pretty minimal, all things considered. Nothing like the Weimar Republic. That is true but only because we are still the worlds reserve currency. After WWI, when Germany started printing money, they were not the worlds reserve currency so ...

Another case of fraud. Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

The entertaining part is this is not really news. The British banking and insurance industries have been making their money since their currency lost its reserve status by rigging the world market. Everyone knows it but no one cares because if you are in the know you can make money off of it as well...

tookieblueeyes wrote: HOW MANY COUNTRIES are currently in financial crisis? Total? As of RIGHT NOW 6/15/12?
Because of the interconnectedness of the world economy all of them. The issue is that after Greece there are a bunch more ready to be put under the spot light including the US and the UK.

Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

It is funny your bring up interest rates. I was trying to sell houses when the best loan you could get was an ARM and it was 15%. A fixed term loan would have cost you 18% and as you can imagine most home builders were going broke! I too do not see the whole global financial melt down as the end of ...

The tools at Bloomberg believe that the already crappy economy in the US won't be able to get much worse. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-05/energy-housing-and-trade-shield-u-s-from-euro-crisis.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Significant is that only 2% of US exports go th...

Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

Warren Buffet said that the odds of a renewed recession in the U.S. are low but that all bets could be off if the effects of Europe's financial crisis were to "spill over in a big way." So what are the odds of a spillover? Based on the amount of private EU debt owned by the US and the percentage of...

I need to admit that I am a reformed Sig snob. I love my sigs a whole lot so I usually sing the sig song when someone asks... Grin. Blacksmith wrote: Unrothodox my ass. That is almost exactly what the fed has been doing.
The difference is that the fed services a single country whereas the ECB services a bunch of separate countries. What they are suggesting is like California telling the fed to bail out one of their local savings and loans.

Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

Seems that, like many other things in finance, the rumors start a self-fufilling prophecy. I bet that if I lived in Greece, I'd transfer a large portion of my money out to some other Euro country - especially since there is no exchange rate! I'd also be buying PM's just to have something on hand......

Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

A common currency only woks if you also rationalize everything else. The USA is a great example of how a common currency can work. We have standardized on the Dollar and to some extent a single fiscal policy but we still have some differences between the various states. If the Euro countries had don...

Re: CrossBow Question

I just got back from my BOL and while there I tried out the el cheapo Chinese crossbows. I have to say I was surprised at their fit and function and will be buying a few more as spares. Everyone who came for a visit enjoyed shooting it and was surprised at how accurate they could be right out of the...

Re: Advice on tree planting (2012)

Yep, I planted some after using a tractor post hole digger to dig the hole nice and deep. My thought was that I would be loosening the soil so the roots could go deep, but what ended up happening was that the trees began to sink as the soil compacted beneath them. I'm having a bit of a challenge no...

Re: Advice on tree planting (2012)

Fresh horse manure is normally viewed as too hot and should be composted before use. If you have access to a pile from last year, use that. Is the reason I use manure that has had time to be well worked into the ground by horses. That way I get seasoned product that is cut with dirt. Many trees are...

Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

Which country has a currency in a positive position that would actually want their currency to be a reserve currency? That is a provocative question and one I am not sure I know the answer to. I do not know how a currency becomes the worlds reserve currency nor do I know if the country even has a c...

Re: CrossBow Question

The British special forces are reported to be the best shots in the world with crossbows (as well as 50 cal sniper shots) so if we could get some advice from them that would be worth its weight in gold. The 23 Reg. recruits from my OTC, occasionally show up at the barracks. If I see any, I'll ask t...

Re: CrossBow Question

I'd be very cautious asserting ranges for crossbows. I've seen people in shops selling them with silly recommended distances to newbie hunters. Different crossbows might have plenty of cast and power out to 50 yards, others maybe not. And you'd need to be careful with your sights, you'll get a lot ...

Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

I'm not worried about reserve currencies in such a scenario. I am much more concerned about the fallout from US consumers being unable to consume cheap stuff made in poor countries For those of us in the US that is a valid concern and one that we will eventually get to experience. My belief (and I ...

Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

The problem we have is that if the US goes down so does everyone else. Unlike the situation with the British there is no one capable of stepping into the void. So instead things would get allot more local and allot messier. That is not entirely true. There are quite a number of other countries whos...

Not to be a dick but I would not exactly call what's going on in England rising back up. I do not believe you are being a male sex organ. Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

It is worth keeping in mind that the British Pound has gone through this exact same issue around 1967. The Pound went from the world reserve currency to a local currency and the small island of Britain survived. When this happens to the US dollar we too will be able to get through it, if we don't ac...
