Re: Firearms Chat: [2021 - Aw, FFS!]

I've mostly seen bullpup semi-autos from them along with some AR-12s. Those seem to have pretty good reviews and the most common complaint I've seen is them not working well with birdshot, which is common on most semi-auto shotguns. In my experience shooting 3-gun, the problem with birdshot is real...

I set my donation thingie on Amazon Smile to the Second Amendment Foundation. Ain't much, but I don't get spammed by them asking for money.

Re: All purpose "Help me build my AR" thread.

I recently pulled my Saiga-12 conversion out of the back of the safe, and remembered how much I love the SAW style grip. Does anyone know if SAW type grips are available for ARs? My google searching just turned up a bunch of links to out-of-stock TAPCO products, and mostly for AKs at that.

Re: Firearms CHAT: [2020 - Year of the Squib]

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KIgvoJKovIg A nice video from the president of Federal, CCI, Speer and Remington. In short: they are making more ammo than ever in our history, hiring new people ("hundreds," I assume spread across the brands), and shipping it all. But demand is kinda high right now, i...

Re: Several must read SCi-fi based Apocalyptic novels

I also came across Farnham's Freehold and grabbed it based on recommendations in this thread. Turns out I had already read it but had only vague memories of it and those memories mixed it in with another Heinlein book. I didn't realize it was the same hook I had read before till near the end. A hug...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [2020 - Year of the Squib]

Just like if you buy a former class 3 kit, and purchase the parts to compleat it, storing them together, before disabling the select fire function. BATFE will charge you with intent to manufacture a machine gun. Or having a rifle registered AR lower, and a pistol upper: voila, conspiracy to build a...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [2020 - Year of the Squib]

Random observation: I was in my local Academy today. Not there fun anything gun related, but I wandered over to that part of the store anyway, just to see. The only handgun ammo on the shelves was 10 or so boxes of .500 S&W Magnum. No rifle ammo on the shelves at all. The only shotgun ammo was birds...

Re: How can you buy milsurp in today's market?

How comfortable or uncomfortable is the wire stock when shooting that M1, Rick ? It's fairly decent for a wire stock. I do have a slight issue is with the pistol grip, which could stand to be about a half inch longer. As is, the pinky finger on my large-ish hand ends up fighting with the sling swiv...

Re: How can you buy milsurp in today's market?

I bought (another) can of RoK surplus .30 carbine instead. Those actually haven't gone up in price too much. I bought a can for I think $380 or $385 back in March, right after the Wuhan flu lockdowns started. This last one was $395 from the same vendor (SGAmmo). I need to stock-up on some .30 carbi...

Re: How can you buy milsurp in today's market?

Ammo and clips are a pain to locate. There are several sellers on the eBay offering clips...they're averaging around $15 a piece. Could be worse. Could be Berthier clips. Those start at around $30, with 8mm Lebel running north of a $1 a round. (I looked into it because the local LGS had a Berthier ...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

From NPR : Walmart Yanks Guns Off Shelves Citing Rising Tensions Yeah, this is * being responsible, at least on the surface. I find a bit of an odor...not able to articulate more, atm. Have looters been going after guns? Seems to me it would be more helpful to pull the TVs and alcohol off the shelv...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

I'm going to guess probably not. If Uncle Sam did, I'm thinking the rifles were probably destroyed around the same time most of the Pedersen devices for the M1903 were. At least one survived. https://www.rockislandauction.com/detail/57/3025/fine-winchester-model-1895-russian-contract-musket edit to...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

I meant like a later civilian run, I feel like it'd be a decent seller with cheap ammo. But I guess Mosin guys aren't high end lever guys haha To my knowledge, there hasn't been any civilian models of the Model 1895 in 7.62x54r. It was pretty much a one-off run for Russia during WW1. I've been want...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

I dunno that there's actually any law at the federal level that could be used against what's obviously a vexatious litigant, unfortunately. It'd be nice if the US defaulted to a "loser pays" systems, which I understand is more common worldwide, so that in circumstances like this the plaintiff would...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

I'm thinking of getting a bayonet for my AR, but mine is a 16 inch barrel carbine and everything I'm finding is designed for 20 inch barrel rifles. I know there's adapters, but everywhere I check is either sold out or backordered by months. Ah well, it's not really necessary, just something I thoug...

This ammo shortage must be hitting folks harder than I thought..... TFB - The Bayonet Mount from Geissele Automatics If you have five Picatinny rail sections left Geissele Automatics now has a solution for you, called the “Super Stabby Bayonet Mount“, or SSBM for short – the name gives an idea of h...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

This last week I completely stripped down my "American Enfield" Winchester, U.S. Rifle, .30 Cal. Model of 1917 (I just love that sentence for a name) to its constituent parts, cleaned the metal and set it in a new (to me) stock and set of handguards. I mentioned this rifle in the longarms subforum ...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

Oh, ok. Looks like I'll be storing my 870 with an empty chamber now. Lots of people, including myself, keep their pump shotguns in what's sometimes called "cruiser ready", meaning loaded, unchambered, safety off. Prevents accidents and is quick to deploy if needed. I didn't realize there was a name...

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

I have been interested in a lever action as a fun gun for a while, but they are spendy enough that I have a hard time justifying them to myself. Some day. If I were to get a Mare's Leg style lever gun I think I'd like to get a Henry Axe. If Winchester would make a replica of their Model 1895 Russia...
