Re: Stainless Barrels

Not all Stainless Steel is equal either. The most common are 410, 416 and 416R. IIRC 410 is the tuffest and responds best to firing in really cold temperatures, 416R is almost as good as 410 and is in most peoples opinion GTG. I would steer clear of 410 unless you are a low round count benchrest sho...

Re: Help me with my .22 system

I have a .22 conversion for my glock 19 by Advantage Arms, and it is ammo picky, it is a training tool, not something I would stake my life on.

Re: My New Plan (Shotgun > Rifle ?!)

These are all LEO cases but they give you some idea of the issues with Less-Lethal ammunition. http://www.aele.org/law/2012all12/2012-12MLJ101.pdf If you want to have less-lethal shotgun you should follow police doctrine and use only that ammo in that gun, because a mistake could be costly. Another ...

Re: How critical do you think a dump pouch is?

For my system very critical. I utilize the BFG tenspeed pouches, these require some work to get a mag back in the elastic after taking it out. So, I train to put partials in the dump pouch until i can work them back into the gear. I still drop empties because that is how I train. If I survive a figh...

I gave up on .380 auto and .40S&W due to cost. I may get back into .40 again some day but not any time soon.

MOE in black. It is light and cheap. But on my .308 I run a STR because it has better cheek-weld and lockup.

Re: Terminal Ballistics Chat Thread

When I was an LEO we carried the same rounds year around. So, I see little value in switching it up every few months. I do recommend shooting your carry ammo every 12 months if you are EDCing that weapon because the sweat, grime and dirt can over time cause issues. Just chat: I switched all my Range...

Re: painiac's Essential Guide to Gun Cleaning/Maintenance (2

great post! I do still use pipe cleaners but not for inside the gas tube, i wrap them around the gas tube to get it cleaned up. I don't spend money on them, my wife does because she is a teacher and needs them anyways. I just steal all the white ones when she gets a pack. I also find them helpful wh...

Nice, I never could bring myself to buy a HK, every time I had the money saved up I ended up buying a Sig or a rifle. But I know many LEOs that love theirs.

Re: Ok, I need help with AR gas system lengths.

I run a mid-gas system 16 inch mid weight barrel AR, It wears a Bravo Company compensator which does nothing for recoil, what it does is helps keep vertical movement to a minimum. It is really quick on the follow up shots and has no recoil to speak of. (now my M&P10 .308 that is recoil! )

Re: Mossberg MVP - Anybody got one

I would look for a bigger caliber round. The 223 is a great combat round but is very limited for hunting. He wasn't asking for opinion on caliber, simply for information or experience with the rifle. That said, there are plenty of hunting uses for .223. It's good for anything from prairie dogs to c...

Re: XM193 or M855 as SD ammo for an AR-15

Neither, my xm193 is for practice my m885 is JIC SHTF, For SD I run Winchester RA556B which is 64 grain JSP. It does great on soft penitration and expands well. It would work well on 2 leg prey and smaller 4 leg.

18 inch rifle gas system stainless steel for accuracy and portability. You can paint or coat the barrel if it is too shiny for ya. I doubt most people will ever wear out a barrel even a stainless one.

Re: Attacked In Car, Car Won't Start!

Due to the poor performance of most 9mm loads through auto glass I would pick a heavy weight 40 load out of a Glock 23 or a bonded 45acp load out of a hk45c. Rounds that are not bonded and that rely heavily on velocity for terminal ballistics do poorly throug intermediate barriers like sheet metal,...

I was asuming that the car had no power, therefore in most modern vehicles power windows would not roll down. If I can roll down a window then that is preferable.
