Worst knife you ever owned?

Curious to see what everyone thinks. Remember, you have to have owned and used the knife you post.

For me, Cold Steel Kudu. Threw it out because I thought it was too dangerous and otherwise useless to give away. Usually a fan of Cold Steel for the money.

Re: How much water storage?

Conducted a several day experiment on whether 1 gallon of water per day was enough. Posted video results. It was a learning experience; for me 1 gallon of water/day was not correct. Your needs depend on things like level of activity, ambient temperature, amount of sanitation and cleaning you;re unde...

Re: Pick 5 meds...

OTC: If I could only take 5 of these I would take any combination of the top two or three in each category. Schedule II Painkillers while being nice to have are not the priority, infection control in an austere environment is the real challenge. Narcotics can be dangerous especially to those who ha...

Re: Pick 5 meds...

I learned the benefits of ranitidine from a courteous ER doc many years ago. The five drugs I carry in my backwoods kit are: 1)Ibuprofen-I'm not a big fan of naproxen, this takes away the aches and pains of the trail. 2)Imodium-cause no bowel movement is better than too many bowel movements 3)Benad...

Re: Are shotguns worthwhile?

Shotgun's low cost and ammunition versatility might go a long way for a lot of folks. Are you going to hunt squirrels/birds/rabbits with a .308 and scatter their parts all over the forest? "That's what my .22 is for" So you're going to shoot coyote and deer with your .22? "That's what my .308 is for...

Re: Are shotguns worthwhile?

Are shotguns worthwhile? The answer is emphatically yes. They wouldn't have survived the test of time if they weren't. The 1911 has, as have black powder and other seevrely outdated firearms. Modern sporting rifles can take every type of game in the US (laws notwithstanding) at varying ranges. Shot...

Re: 5.11 or LBT

No experience with LBT but from the price difference I wonder if we're comparing apples and oranges. We just started carrying 5.11 packs at the store. 5.11 may be stretching their street cred thin in their clothing at the moment but from what I can see their packs are very well constructed and well ...

Two words to consider; 1) Pseudomonas 2) auriginosa Four other words to consider; 1) Foot 2) infections 3) suck 4) balls Puncture wounds through sweaty, nasty, fetid footwear are known to carry an increased risk of resultant P auriginosa infection. So much so that prophylactic coverage with fluoroq...

Re: Any new Hunting Backpacks out there?

This is a new Norwegian company that makes a nice hunting backpack. I've met the inventor several times at the range, and have tried his prototype pack. The guy's a proper gearwhore, so a lot of thought has gone into these. Check out the video. Here's our quick demo of these packs. http://youtu.be/...

Re: What's the most effective portable firearm?

A pistol is going to be your main weapon in such a situation because it's the most concealable and the quickest to deploy. Everyone has their own choices, this is mine. http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr47/Browning35/AAA%20B35s%20Guns/C915F239-8A37-4597-AE3D-553B4A0E02D4-19214-000005B23BE21095.j...
