Re: Open Ended Scenerio's

I don't like scenarios in which my actions up to this point have already been dictated. Step 1 as soon as they come in I'd instruct my SO (I dont' have a wife but I do have a girlfriend, and if they're pointing guns at her, then I'm going to do everything in my power to protect her.) to get down, hi...

The C9 is so cheap that if you're curious, just get one. It's really not going to break the budget.

Re: How useful will your skills or current job be on Z-Day?

Well an artist isn't that useful, but I work as a security guard and am pretty good at keeping my eyes open for trouble, and a decent shot. Before that I was in sales, which isn't so useful but it did give me a bit of interpersonal skills, that I employ in my current line of work to keep things peac...

Re: My First Deer Hunting Season and a Mosin

I'm curious as to what ammo you used. I can only seem to find it in 2 flavors, soft point, and FMJ. FMJ is more common but seems inhumane for hunting, while I've heard some horror stories about what soft points do at the crazy velocities a mosin produces. A friend tells me that the deer basically ex...

Re: so have a question to ask about gardening

It isn't impossible to grow with that soil. I personally garden in native soil as much as possible. Part of my prepping isn't just growing, but growing without the use of imported soil. That means a lot of experimenting and small batches to see what will take in the soil and what won't. My soil is r...

Re: $20 Hardware store zombie club :-)

I'd suggest a lighter shaft really. The thing that makes a mace so devastating isn't its overall weight but its weight distrobution. You'll actually get a much stronger swing if most of the weight is in the head, even if that means making the shaft lighter. Impact is funny like that. Mass X Velolcit...

Re: Raccoon City Situation

Are we assuming that the area will be clesnsed? I think Faluja pretty well showed that the military can cleanse and area without use of nuclear weapons, though clearly larger numbers of much less competant opponents are involved, so I expect a round of bombing and napalm ot precede a house to house ...

I have that same cable keyring from countycomm and it's wonderful. Things I'd suggest for it. Military can opener. they come in two sizes, I went witht he smaller one for convenience sake. Aside from being good for opening your lunch, they open packages, and make for handy flathead screwdrivers. Cou...

Re: How do you stop a dog from killing chickens?

Sorry, but you've raised a killer. Old dogs CAN be taught new tricks, but you'e going to have to work hard at curtailing that killing instinct. There's a few of those wandering around the neighborhood here, that have killed a few of my good mouser cats, but I can't seem to get a clear shot at it. In...

I'll tell you from experience. Reinforce your door frame. It's the frame that gives more often than the door or locks. That deadbolt will stay perfectly intact while it rips through the thin wooden frame. As long as you're inside, chains are actually more effective than deadbolts. They have some giv...

Re: Your pet is quite plump....

There's enough wildlife around here that it's highly unlikely I'd resort to eating a pet. What kind of wasteland do you folks live in? I could shoot a squirrel from the front door some days. My cat is lean and muscley. She does better catching mice and keeping them out of my food storage. I guess if...

Re: Aloe Vera Juice - Health Benefits? UPDATE

I grow aloe plants for medicinal use. They multiply like crazy. Just pur water and in a few days you have new sprouts popping up. They don't seem to care what soil they're in either. If you want to use it internally, cut a leaf and leave it for half an hour for the yellow sap to drain out, and it sh...

Here in Mississippi there are a lot of Cajuns who came here after Katrina. I have found it not uncommon that they carry a bottle of tobasco as EDC.

I was doing some reasearch for a Canadian friend of mine last week on this very topic. Canadian laws are tough. While unlike the UK, self defense isn't completely illegal in Canada, the defender carries the burden of proof and must prove in a defense situation that he or she was defending her/himsel...

Hope she has a rescue plan. Of the guns to carry, I'm going to say flare gun, accompanied by a cellphone on a network with good coverage. Also a donkey or mule might be better. Not as glamorous but they don't spook as easily, are generally tougher, a good bit smarter, and not as likely to abandon he...

Dumbest thing isn't so bad. Just forgot to put my earplugs back in after asking "all clear down range?" and announcing "Range going hot." before firing off a 12 gauge slug.

For a moment I just thought. "Huh, that was louder than usual." Then came the ringing and tremendous pain.

She may not be legal to carry yet, but a 14 year old should be more than able to shoot. For non school days, pepper spray is a must for her. The rest of the time I'd get her martial arts lessons, but focus on something defense oriented, not competition. Good old Shotokan or Kenpo is good for that, o...

1) Your Weapon of choice and why? My carry guns, plus a shotgun. You can argue ARs all day long, but if you're at long gun ranges, you're better off not engaging in the first place. The shotgun is for survival, and its versatility of hunting loads make it ideal for taking pretty much anything I'm li...

I'd put some kind of cup or carrier inside it, so that it could fire multiple smaller projectiles like a real blunderbuss, essnetially making it a slingshot shotgun. A whle bunch o marbles coming out of that thng would be pretty awesome.

Well after seeing the video I can see that the biggest problems are the saw and axe. Maybe if the blade were sharpened it could chop a little better but it seems to be kind of limited. I could go through that branch faster with my breacher bar really. Instead drop a wire saw down the storage tube fo...

Re: Turning the break-action into a bug-out gun...suggestion

I suggest a butt cuff shell holder. They'r inexpensive, had having 5 easy access shells should be quite handy. The one advantage of break actions is, with practice you can get your reloading times way down. If it has an ejector even better since the mere act of opening it will present you with a fro...

Re: Any use for exotic shotgun ammo?

I'd say buck and ball and buck and slug combination rounds might have some value just due to their sheer destructive capability. If you don't know what you'll need to shoot at and whether you'll need the superior penetration of a slug, or if the spread and multiple wound channels of buckshot is goin...
