New Developments in Bird Flu (Weaponized)

Bird Flu H5N1 has just gotten serious! Traditional strains of H5N1 had a low R-naught factor, in other words it was not easily spreadable from human to human, while doing research, they have developed a new strain with a significant R-naught factor that would allow it to be much more easily transfer...

Re: USA GI Poncho + Liner Question

My woobie has a zipper added so I can half it and use it as a lightweight bag. Ok a poncho or a good quality space blanket in a hammock you can stay pretty warm down to about 30-40 degrees depending on wind. All are lightweight sleeping options. I also have an old issued Gortex bag cover. Add woobie...

Add the electric anyway, and don't tell anybody! You will be glad you did! Plus military housing is a contract affair run by civilian ass clowns. Just make sure you follow good and safe practices and stay in code.

@ the OP - No one has said this clearly yet: - Learn the different types of locks and how to identify them (pin tumbler, wafer, warded, lever, combo, etc.) - Learn how they work: Youtube, How Stuff Works and eHow have some good CG vids on this - Learn what brands and models have modified tumblers, ...

Re: Very First Prepping Step-Warning! It ain't pretty!

You are doing fine, start small, but do something every day. Read, study, pack, can, plant, stock, research, do something everyday. Find "like minded" individuals, don't go alone. Develop you prepper persona. (Stand and fight, run and gun, hide and seek, hunker down) Make small obtainable goals base...

Get some spray Afrin. It works like a charm. I get them bad especially this time of the year. I will spray some Afrin then put a "Plug" of tissue. Put your head back and get your fingers out of your nose.

Re: Safe & Legal Mock Urban Bugout?

I’m planning a three-day, two-night urban bug for Atlanta the weekend of December 2 - 4. Should be fun. My focus will be to test some new BOB gear, make several HAM contacts each night QRP with an 817, and find three secure and accessible secure hide locations. I have one picked out now (A telephone...

1. Look The Part: Dress down, nothing flashy, I love dickies, not a slob, not a business man, just a guy going to or from work, nothing intimidating, nothing that screams look at me. I carry a big key ring, look like a regular joe. 2. Stay with natural colors: All the cool exotic outdoor equipment t...

Re: What Did You Do Today To Prepare?

Got back from Europe, had to add a few things back to my BOB that I couldn’t fly with. I have purchased so many cheap knives that I have started caching them in other cities. This time I cached 2 knives, and a great lil map of the AO. It will be there when I arrive next month for a week. I do like t...

MFJ duel band magnet mount, about $25.00 at HRO. Put it on a cookie sheet, makes a decent base ant.

Re: Brief History of Tactical Pants

Never had good luck with 5.11 pants; the knees wear out, and the fabric is prone to "holes." When I first bought them, I couldn't figure out what that stupid loop was/is for so I just cut it off. Still not a fan; might try "Vertx" or the "Bear Grylls pants" and see how they work or (likely) just st...

Stick with Kelty! Great Bag's. Look at REI! Get something that will fit your size and needs. Always add a little bigger then needed but not too big. I compartmentalize my things with size appropriate ziplock freezer bags (Sams) I agree on the non-tactical look especially in an urban areas. I like gr...

Re: Water purifier for hiking. Any input?

As always, go with several items. Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Primary: MSR Hyperflow Microfilter Great system, easy to use, fast, filter will last for a long time with some basic cleaning. Works good for Forward Operating Base or in camp. (I'm an MSR guy) lots on the market. I held up well in Af...
