Re: Papua New Guinea- Kokoda

Yea the local boys were a great help, to the point where I started feeling guilty, nothing was to much for them, whether it be getting water too helping you up after slipping on your ass for the 10th time that day. Crazy thing that I found was that half of them didnt even wear boots, just did it in ...

Papua New Guinea- Kokoda

Hello all :) So I put a post on this forum asking about backpacks, what to look for etc. I mentioned that I was doing the Kokoda trek in Papua New Guinea, and promised a write up, its here, a bit late I will admit. But better late than never right? Day one was spent mostly in transit (Hobart-Brisban...

Re: Zombie Squad hecklers?

I have to admit, when I came across this site, the "Zombie Squad" name gave me a bit of a chuckle, but that was what got me reading about the topics, the amount of information here is just massive, and its gotten me to take "prepping" seriously, if there's a piece of gear that I'm thinking about buy...

Re: Tactical pack or hiking pack?

Some brands/models available here for you to consider, looking at about 50L for a BOB: - Osprey Kestrel Damn mind reader  I Picked up the Osprey Kestrel on Saturday. Its a great pack, havent had the chance to field test it yet, but my impressions on it are good. The frame system is great, with...

Re: Most durable backpack material

Most durable practical material would be canvas. As others have said, when it gets wet it gets heavy. My thoughts, if going for a canvas pack, dont think that you can skimp on the price. If the pack gets wet and heavy, you are going to want a pack with a decent frame and harness system to keep the w...

Re: Tactical pack or hiking pack?

Figs and Bacon, we have a few places like REI, with high quality gear available, just not the same brands that you mentioned (I have seen Osprey equipment around though) Hey Indiana, I'll be checking those places out, along with Snowgum and Passion8 (those are the stores that we have here in Hobart)...

Re: Tactical pack or hiking pack?

Thanks for bringing the MOLLE and ILBE packs to my attention. To me, they look like military makes of civilian packs yea? I wont be getting a military pack for my trek, weight is the biggest issue, so I will be getting a high quality civilian pack. I would like to get a third pack to use as a 72 hou...

Re: Tactical pack or hiking pack?

So just to be clear EricinMaryland, you want pics? I like the look of those Kelty packs. To me, the Eagle and Raven look like top quality hiking packs. The internal frame systems on the hiking packs are obviously a huge bonus for comfort, good to take more weight off the shoulders with the hip...

Re: Tactical pack or hiking pack?

Thanks for the great answers! Just to clarify, I will be getting a proper hiking pack for Kokoda , I was asking the question in a bug out survival situation. You will be hiking the Kokoda Track, which is known here in Michigan in the USA due to our local National Guard unit (the 126th Infantry of th...

Tactical pack or hiking pack?

Hey all. So I'm new here, and thought this would be a good place to start. I'm 18, and will be making a big purchase of hiking gear in the coming weeks for a bushwalk in Papua New Guinea called the Kokoda Track. But anyway, back on topic. I've taken an interest to the bug out bag discussions on what...

Hey, From Tasmania, Australia

Seemed like a friendly community with the intent to make a difference (charity work, raising awareness etc), so here I am :) As I mentioned in the subject, I come from a state of Australia called Tasmania, its a good place to ...
