Re: Carrying Military Backpacks Over Seas - yes/no

I took a cruise one week went to the Cayman Islands, a couple of other spots Aruba was one, The cruise director warned "NO CAMMO hats or backpacks" I found this odd because this is all I had, I found it interesting you could walk down the street with a Machete, but no cammo hats, I guess they'll thi...

Re: Dixie "Icepocalypse" 2014-What Worked/Didn't

In 1998 when the BIG ice storm hit, Insurance companies in the area of upper NYS did this: Paid you to run your generator, Paid you if you went out and bought one, paid you for brush removal, paid you to protect your home against further damage. Folks that had generators were smart, but the ones who...

Re: Dixie "Icepocalypse" 2014-What Worked/Didn't

Thanks everyone for the input, Can't see this being enforced in our community, were on municipal power, But I'm looking at the system that attaches under the electric meter, I think its called Genlink........ I guess I look at the actual physical consequences of screwing up a jury rig (under stress...

I don't believe it's illegal to run a generator without a transfer switch, is it a state law? A City Law? I live in NYS the law capitol of the world. Never heard of it, I realize you need to do when the power goes out.

Re: Scary experience, help me pick a revolver as an office g

How about a Ruger Security Six .357, handles +p and .357 with no problems built like a tank and dependable.... Since requirement #1 specifies NO Rugers... I could have answered with a H+K MP5 which satisfies almost NONE of the OP's stated requirements. But I felt I could have answered with an actua...

Re: Lessons from Christmas 2013 ice storm & freezing temps

As a survivor of the 91' ice storm the 9something micro burst , the 98' ice storm and the most recent one I can say having a generator and at least 2 five gallon cans is the smartest things you can have during any storm, Now in the summer resist the urge to: Sell the generator, And by all means star...

Re: 22 Hours Without Power...We were ready!

I live in Jefferson County, Near Ft. Drum, we didn't lose power until 12/23/13 at 4:00 prior to this I had a generator ready to go, and used it from 5:30 until 12:00 on that day, at that time the outage affected 4000 others, It pays to be prepared, Had an additional 20 gallons of gas on hand, along ...

Re: Emergency cash fund saves the day!

We pay something like $14 for renters insurance, added on to our now-legally-required auto insurance. Too cheap to pass up. If you're young and single, insurance just sounds stupid since you can replace everything you own for $15. Once you have a family, you have to shift your way of thinking. I re...

Brings back memories of the '98 ice storm in the North East, Bought a generator 5 years prior to that, Glad I had it, along with a coleman stove. Nothing like being prepared.
