Re: Critique echo83's Get Home Bag
Your Company won't send someone to pick you up? Maybe try Uber... Or a taxi... Maybe a friend or relative? Seems a little over the top to pack all that for a ride home, or a 20 mile walk on pavement. I bet if you stuck your thumb out as you walked, you could be home even faster! Keep the bottl...

Re: Travelling throughout the western United States
So I finally had time to finish up the flooring. I used 1x2 untreated pieces (basically the cheapest 1x2) and 1 inch long self tapping screws. I counter sunk the screws so they wouldn't split the 1x2's. I self tapped these to the van's higher floor ribs and then attached my 1/2 inch plywood. The hei...

Re: Travelling throughout the western United States
Some pics of my van. I had an older Chevy Express conversion van but I didn't think it would have enough room or carrying capacity once it was loaded down with gear, water, and supplies. So I opted to trade for a GMC 3500. Its longer than my Express and its a 1-ton. http://i816.photobucket.com/album...

Re: Travelling throughout the western United States
Alright! Thanks for all the replies, I really do appreciate them. So far this is turning out to be a vacation/mock extended bugout. Not trying to go too overboard on the bugout side, we were planing to stay 3-4 nights a month in rooms, 5 or so nights at campgrounds with facilities, and the majority ...

Re: Travelling throughout the western United States
Halfapint, We don't have a reason for missing Washington, originally we going to pass close to Yakima. However, we decided to cross the Oregon desert and then drive up the Idaho panhandle, then through to MT. We could easily change that by crossing WA and driving down the panhandle, maybe we can get...

Travelling the western United States ~ Added Pics Page 2
First let me warn everyone; this is not a zombie thread. There are no zombies here. :gonk: Sorry. My wife and I have decided that we would like to spend 5 or 6 months traveling the western states of the USA. Oregon,Idaho,Montana,Wyoming, then down through the plains to Arkansas, and finally across t...

Re: "The Purge" (12 hours of govt approved anarchy)
Holy. Crap. That looks like an insurance nightmare.
What stops the people after 12 hours is my question. I think it would take everyone at least a week to ride out the adrenaline. I'm with those that said week long vacation out of country. That, and maximum insurance on every family member and home.

Re: Small Lot of Land, 10 grand Cash, Start Here
Lots of good points That's basically the same idea that I had in mind, small improvements to the lot, a manufactured home or small cottage, rent it out or sell it later for profit. As far as septic systems go, I found a place selling 500 gallon precast concrete tanks for $320, so I might go that ro...
