Got a SAS 4x4 Toyota! Pics soon

I recently traded for a 4x4 1981 Toyota truck with a $1800 rebuilt carbed 22r. Guy showed me receipts. It's got Lincoln lockers, 35" tires, 10k lb winch up front, a rollbar, fullsize spare, faded paint & a hilift jack. It's doorless. If I bolt a set of mirrors on the hood I think I can get away at t...

Re: $450 for a Kubota 3 cyl Diesel motor?

OUTSTANDING!!!!! Thanks Crypto, great ideas! As a dedicated generator engine, it'll be overkill for most of my non-disaster generator use. Unless I add an option to have it drive an air comp. or hydraulic pump to run tools making it more versatile. The mower pretty much looks like this http://www.qu...

Re: $450 for a Kubota 3 cyl Diesel motor?

I traded for the motor the other day. It's a 20hp Kubota 3cyl D722. I fired it before shaking hands with the fellow-it runs well. I estimate its torque to be 30-90ish ft/lbs. depending on rpm. I got the tractor/mower it came out of as well. I'm planning on using the Kuby to power a generator head, r...

Re: making knives out of old files...

Draw a center line down where the edge will be, or do a Scandi aka single sided grind & don't worry about the edges placement. It comes with practice.

Made a simple metal spearhead

I made a spearhead from a circ saw blade earlier, been wanting to practice trapping skills. It could easily be attached to a stationary trap also. Gonna give the point a good working over in better light tomorrow and forge harden it, maybe make it a little narrower beneath the barb I cut. Feel free ...

Re: making knives out of old files...

Everything StormCrow said. I'm no pro bladesmith, but don't grind in 1 spot for too long. Alternate grinding spots to help keep factory temper. For me if it's too hot to hold bare handed I let it chill out for a few minutes. Try to get Nicholson or other quality files with more than just a carbon co...

Re: Considering a Diesel 4x4 K5 Blazer, help please

case, I'll offer him $1000 max. I want it to work and wheel with as I rebuild my IH 6.9 Diesel and save up for a nice 4x4 single cab 89ish f350 to give the 6.9 a home~unless (shock and awe) I find a nice 12 valve Cummins 6BT, or possibly a 4BT to swap into the K5

Considering a Diesel 4x4 K5 Blazer, help please

I've come across an 83 auto. 4x4 K5 with the Detroit 6.2 Liter Diesel. It's got 33" off road tires and a removable frame to put the rear seat above the cab. It was a hunting truck that's going for $1300. Motor runs well, I'm aware of their weaknesses. Only problem is it wont't shift out of 1st. Ad c...

Re: strangest thing you have ever seen

I was smoking outside of work/the bar after hours and I look up at the sky. I see a bright white spark looking thing fly about 20 feet over the bar. It burned out pretty quickly in midair. It wasn't a comet, too close and wrong color..... I've worked a fireworks stand, been around or used most firew...

Re: PAW Work Vehicles-what are your picks?

I understand that fuel will be scarce during such times, but this is assuming or pretending you've got a decent fuel supply. The Case 95XT's 4BT motor is largely the same as the legendary Cummins 6BT aka 12 valve, motor parts won't be a big issue since it shares many internals. Also, it'll run fine ...

PAW Work Vehicles-what are your picks?

In the event of a PAW brought on by whatever means, many of us would like to bugout to the country. I'm one of those. Others would set up an urban stronghold. In either case, tractors could be very useful. Unloading full 55 gallon drums will be easy, clearing brush and trees quicker, all sorts of ta...

I wonder, could you forge weld a piece of true high carbon steel in to the blade portion of an HC spike, making it a Damascus blade?

I wanted a handle that would positively "lock" in the hand to make retaining it easy. I may cut some scales for the sides, not sure yet. I've got ironwood but I don't like wood on tantos, I'm leaning towards G10 or maybe micarta....or maybe a cord wrap

Re: Knife hand made from railroad spike

Spikes are perfect to practice and learn on, but they simply don't have enough carbon content to make a GREAT knife. Try to get spikes used on a curved portion of the track-they have more carbon (although still not enough). Often times they're marked HC

It's a double bevel, made from a $2.50 crowbar from Harbor Freight. It's about 1/4 inch thick. I wanted a thick hefty fixed blade that would fill my hand. A similar knife I wanted was $50 at the gunshow

Here's the newest knife I've been working on, a bit of cosmetic work and it's taking a trip into my forge. Comments are welcomed.

Re: What is the best way to mount white-light on an AK?

The rail on the opposite side of the bolt handle of my WASR is where I'd mount a light. I've got scope rings that can clamp onto it. I just needa find a good all metal light preferably stainless but alum. will work and turn an adaptor to mount the light in the rings. Meanwhile I'd go with stainless ...

I came across a steel Sysco brand 1st aid box with a few items in it. I added my own kit to it and it lives in my car now. You could use a tin case of some sort like a cleaned cigar box or a plastic pencil box

I've had stitches but have never stitched myself. I have butterflied myself-without butterflies. I had 2 good 3" or so lacerations on my arm. Being exceptionally broke basically homeless, I got a band aid and cut the adhesive part into strips to use as 'flies after sanitizing the wounds. The strips ...

1 Heritage Rough Rider in .22LR

1 NAA 5 shot revolver in .22 Magnum

1 S&W Model 49 .38 Special

Next on my list is the Ruger Alaskan in .45 Colt/.454 Casull  1800 ft/lbs of bullet force is hard to argue with IMO

Vegas, what's your idea about?

AK47, I'd like to see the CD test! After I get the dies and shell holder I'm gonna load some ammo for the Model 49. It came with Pachmayer Presentation/Compac grips and a bolt on trigger shoe. Having shot it, I'm happy. It'll be spending a lot of time with me at the range :D
