Re: Riots in St Louis?

Let's hope it cools down tonight, a good thunderstorm would be quite helpful right about now. Some reports of gunfire, arson and shooting at police helicopters lastnight, so if anything the media may be downplaying things.

Re: Thinking about modifications for my Glock 20

CDE is an acronym for the very finest 10mm platform that mankind has ever known. Colt Delta Elite. They just came back into production too, now if only they'd give us one with a rail in a commander form factor I'd be in heaven. For all the awesome that is the CDE however, your G20 was much cheaper....

Re: Thinking about modifications for my Glock 20

id pass on doing anything to a G20. :? Why's that? My understanding is that an aftermarket barrel is pretty much required for shooting cast lead bullets. At which point, he's still well cheaper than a CDE. What does CDE stand for? Instead of a long slide and a red dot, buy another Glock 20 and Akim...

Re: Ode To The Swedish Mess Kit (56K look out!)

I know it isnt exactly the same, but the Russians have sort of a knockoff based on pictures. No experience with them, but they may be a viable alternative. Also I used BBQ paint on mine to deal with the poor factory paint. The spray on stuff did NOT last nearly as long as the paint on stuff, could p...

Re: Pocket pistols make my peepee hurt

FWIW, years ago I did try carrying my g27 in pocket while hiking because of backpack waist belt issues, but I just couldn't get it out effectively because my pocket openings were too small. Hey, you know what you need? http://www.thewilderness.com/storepinnacle/index.php?p=catalog&parent=171&pg=1" ...

Re: Aurora Colorado Movie Theatre Massacre during movie.

So, the full armor report I heard from the LEO on the teevee was that the guy had Ballistic helmet Throat protector vest groin protector/dickpad ballistic leg guards. So, basically, you're looking for a face shot, from extended range, with a pistol, while hes got a rifle and the initiative. Thats a...

I loooove that Izula folder, in the meantime dude? Ontario Rat-1. its a big chunky no frills folder, highly practical and like 30 out the door. It takes an awesome edge, and holds it fairly well. If you want a stone cold practical knife, until that Izula comes out the Rat-1 is a solid pick. Consider...

Re: Eberlestock - Tactical Packs

I have a Halftrack and am 5'5" 125 pounds. It's SUPER comfortable and durable. The only complaints I have are: 1. It's heavy. Almost 7 pounds empty. However, heavy duty and heavy weight seem to be hand and hand so I live with it. 2. There are no straps that go across the front opening (the main com...

Whats the verdict on sights GTG for the ultimak rail? I know the Aimpoint Micro is apparently indifferent to the heat, but what about an EOtech ect?

Deciding if I wanna hotrod the WASR or snag an arsenal, or hotrod the WASR and then pull the goodies off and throw them on the Arsenal.

Re: Glock 23 popularity

Well, I for one would submit that the problem is that some people (*nudge nudge, talking about you*) seem to be convinced that there has to be a "right" answer. All of the duty calibers in common use today are proven performers, as are those less common calibers which closely replicate their ballis...

Re: Glock 23 popularity

If we're after penetration why not snag .357 or 10mm? I truly do think .40 is clownshoes, and its become as popular as it is in the face of alternate calibers purely due to a mixture of marketing and politics over actual performance. Just because X,Y or Z use something doesnt mean anything. Does it...

Re: Glock 23 popularity

I figured that's what you meant, Matt, just wondering. Kace, no need to be sarcastic about it, he's making a good point. The .40 is an intermediate round which offers a couple of advantages important to uniformed LE duty use in the US. The 9mm is in most ways the equal of the .40, but they each off...

Re: Glock 23 popularity

I used the term "author" to denote Doc's write ups that accompany the pics as you generally don't see one without the other. The pics and write up are used on no less then 3 different threads here to pooh-pooh the .40. How ever, the guy who wrote the text openly agrees and recommends the .40 for du...

Well fuck. I guess its time to wait for Kelgren's RMR-30 then, maybe within our lifetimes we'll be able to actually buy a Kel-tec product.

Re: Whats the deal with 5.7?

It probably has to do with FN also making the only two guns that chamber it that have been sold in any appreciable quantities. Yeah, its completely reloadable. So winchester or federal wont make cheap ammo for it? I guess this is a chicken/egg argument but like, the biggest reason I havent bought a...

Whats the deal with 5.7?

I've almost bought a P90 or FN 57 handgun a few times now, but I can never find loaded ammunition by anyone but FN corporate. Whats the deal, are they holding patents back or something? Right now for instance, due to the pre-election hysteria I cant find 5.7 for sale anywhere. Besides, whats wrong w...

NOPE. Springs don't work that way. What he said. Although if you're leaving your wheelgun loaded for long periods of time...how are you practicing with it? I routinely use mags that have been loaded for 3 months or more. What you've seen is fatigue caused by a worn out spring, which happens by expa...

Re: Revolver as bug-out gun

I own a Sig P220 (45 acp) and a Chiappa Rhino 4"(357). The big advantage with a revolver that I've seen has been that you can leave a revolver loaded forever and it will fire. Leave an auto loaded and you have to worry about the springs being weakened from being compressed continually. I've seen th...

Re: Glock 23 popularity

That chart is from the 1993 FBI thing on ballistics, or maybe it was 92. Either way its out of date, and not a true representation. Look at the performance of modern high velocity 9mm loads. Even a +P load in 9mm, has less recoil than .40 and in terms of kinetic energy they're very close and in ter...

Re: Pocket pistols make my peepee hurt

Considering I wear a big length motorcycle jacket everywhere (Cuz I commute via bike) I can assure you that at least in my specific case, pocket carry is faster than unzipping and clearing. Good bike jackets are anchored to your beltline so they wont ride up if you fall, that means getting clean acc...
