Re: Guns vs Silver + Silver and International Travel

I highly recommend traveling around as much as you can particularly with your field of study. It's one thing to read about a culture it's a whole different thing to live in it. I've never regretted any of my opportunities to visit different areas of the world, if any thing at the least it just make...

Re: Guns vs Silver + Silver and International Travel

I have been fortunate enough to finish my undergraduate degree without any debt (State scholarships, private scholarships, work-study, finishing a semester early) and I'm hoping to get a job for a few years to save up for graduate school. The Kyrgyzstan idea is a Plan B for if I'm unable to find a j...

Re: Guns vs Silver + Silver and International Travel

I can see I've come to the right place, I suspected as much in regards to the firearms being a bad idea as it's essentially a panic out there but I had the worry of "if I wait until any legislation does happen then prices will REALLY spike." but overall I agree that think it's gonna be smart to wait...

Guns vs Silver + Silver and International Travel

I've got two different questions for you guys and I hope I'm in the right place to get some good opinions. I've recently finished college and have a few hundred dollars saved up for myself and for several weeks now I've been thinking about turning it into Silver Eagles as long term investment, silve...

You've just been ordered to Evacuate

(I tried a few queries with the search but apologies if this has already been discussed to death) In the event that the authorities ordered an evacuation in your area and that no assistance would be provided to those remaining (and, for sake of argument, assuming you hadn't already bugged out), woul...

Re: how to build a bunker?

Here's plans for building a underground Fallout Shelter from a very early FEMA. There's also plans for an above ground fallout shelter and improvising one in a existing basement from the same time period floating around on the internets somewhere. http://images.military.com/ContentFiles/cw_shelterh1...

Re: Highways vs railways

In my area they took out the rails a few years back and converted the whole thing into a bike path/nature trail. There is an access point very close to my house and I could follow it right down to the National Guard Armory.

Motion Sensor Lights when SHTF

If a riot or some other kind of civil unrest occurred, assuming the power was still on, would you disable your motion sensor lights or keep them going? While I think they would possibly scare away a small group of looters I think they might also serve to draw others to your presence. If there's some...

Surplus Gas Mask Effectiveness

I've always heard (and believed) that all the old surplus Soviet/Russian gas masks you see around might be nice as a Halloween Costume but too old and obsolete to use in an actual situation. However when reading about the April Uprising in Kyrgyzstan I stumbled upon this picture of a Kyrgyz Soldier ...

Re: Where are you least 'prepared'?

I live in a large city (Tampa) half the year and in a dorm so I can only have my baseball bat and bug-out-bag without breaking any rules and getting kicked out. At least I don't have to deal with this on my morning commute... I live in Australia. http://hockeyheadblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/...

Wow I didn't think it would be so simple. It'll be much more budget friendly to get a $40 mobile than some $200+ base station.
