I'm not a big fan of Dvor, but they are running a good sale on Fenix flashlights.
I picked up a E11 for $20 and a HL10 for $20. The E01 is priced at $10.

Re: Bump In The Night Bag
The subject has come up before. I think the best solution I've seen proposed is a basic tactical vest kitted with your "list of stuff" - pistol, magazines, flashlight, cellphone, etc. I like that idea too, but I like being a little more discreet and a little less Rambo. If you "grab and dash", you ...

Re: US Army Camouflage Improvement Effort
It took me some hunting, but here's the upshot to the rationale of "camouflage aboard ship": But why would a sailor on a ship need to hide himself from view. Mainly because ships are often in port, and sometimes there are hostile people in that port area. The color pattern of the NWU (navy blue, dec...

Re: US Army Camouflage Improvement Effort
Apparently, SecNav isn't fond of the blue camo pattern either: blueberries.
Part of the rationale for Sailors in camo pattern was to break up the humanoid profile against a ship, or so I recall reading once upon a time.

Eagle Industries "Crossover Pack"
$39.99 = with shipping, $50ish.
Good basic pack - heavily influenced by the RAID-style of assault pack.

Depends on your skills and physical ability, doesn't it? Can you secure a rope or ladder to your balcony? Or anything else in your apartment? Do you have the physical ability to rappel down, or climb down, that rope, or climb down that ladder? There aren't a lot of options to get down from a third f...

Re: Too Many Lumens?
Is there such a thing as too many lumens in a flashlight? Is there a point of diminishing returns (where any more lumens simply doesn't make a difference) or a point at which the brightness does more harm than good? I have a Coleman Max that puts out 140 lumens and I thought that was a decent enoug...

For as much money as the Army has sunk into UCP, they might as well keep it for garrison and training purposes.
While it doesn't surprise me that SF is wearing multi-cam openly, I'm surprised 4th ID is - it still isn't authorized, as far as I'm aware, for non-deployment use.

Re: Civilian "grey" packs vs Tactical packs if SHTF?
ACU (or UCP) as a practical pattern is pretty much useless. That said, that's what most of my issued gear happened to be in and I'm more concerned with functionality over form. Especially since I anticipate a glut of UCP gear on the market as the Army transitions to something else.
