Re: The Hammock is Dead. Long Live the Hanging Tent

I like being off the ground, but I don't want to die if I fall out of my shelter.

Re: Unusual Weather Patterns and Prepping.

This is actually a great time to start planning for next years winter. Many of the winter prep items are both in stock and likely to go on sale soon. Off season is great time to reassess your weaknesses and shop for a fix. Our weather pattern has not changed much except this year we did not really ...

Thousands of pounds of books. Also, I have offline backups of some websites for kicks and giggles.

Not -those- kinds of websites. Damn.

Re: Thoughts on solar/crank radios..

I have a Kaito KA009. It has a solar panel but it will only run constantly on solar power in direct sunlight and on a low-ish volume setting. The plastic crank handle does not feel sturdy, but I've actually used it for five-ish years now. Most recently I used it every day during an October snowstorm...

Re: Recommend me a flashlight

OK so here is the lights purpose - My girlfriend will very shortly here be inspecting vacant HUD homes, with the purpose to catalog any damage or report any vandalism. She has her concealed permit and will be carrying a Sig P5. A weapon light is out of the question for her needs. This is what I wan...

Sanrenmu 710. People flipped out because the handle was similar to a Sebenza's.

Re: Elegant way to carry a headlamp

I honestly don't like carrying headlamps around at all. Cumbersome when not in use and not on your head. I much prefer a good angle light for most relevant purposes. Your solution seems nifty, though.

Re: Expired batteries

I'm reminded of a relevant poll over at CandlePowerForums regarding leaking alkalines. I did a series of tests way back in high school regarding this topic for a chemistry class. I wish I had the results in hand now. The general conclusion was that the lower the voltage was the more prone the alkali...

Re: Expired batteries

Take a multimeter and measure the voltage. There may not be a lot of charge left but if there's no leaking then they're not dangerous. The lowest workable voltage will depend on what you are trying to power with them. On the other hand, C and D batteries aren't exactly expensive, so you may just wan...

Re: Bows / Crossbows - When guns aren't an option

@ Jor-El Certainly, as a SD/HD weapon it's not as effective as a firearm. But I'd rather have a bow or a crossbow then nothing at all, which is why i started this thread. Firearms aren't always an option for people- in that case its worth remembering that there are options that are time proven and ...
