Re: New Sig P320 Compact with pics and review.

I have the 320 Carry model with a 17 round mag. I have about 2K rounds through it without issue. Trigger is great and it seems to be well made. my point-of-impact is still about 4" left at 25ft. Using a silhouette target, aiming for the "heart", I am tearing a ragged hole in the "right lung". Has an...

Re: Mossberg MVP Patrol, Scope and Mount, 7.62

Have you gone through and done a full degrease and loctite? Jor-el's right, the drifting zero sounds like something isn't torqued or aligned properly and thermal expansion is dicking with it. Yes, everything I can find to loctite has had the treatment. Everything feels solid and I can't find anythi...

Re: Mossberg MVP Patrol, Scope and Mount, 7.62

Jor-el, unfortunately, my barrel is free-floated. I'm able to run a dollar bill between the stock and the barrel to the near-end of the barrel. The scope, rail, and mount feel rock solid. If I can't get a solution, this rifle will be sold soon. Your ideas were very good. Thanks.

Re: Mossberg MVP Patrol, Scope and Mount, 7.62

The barrel may well be torqued in properly, but a high spot on the shoulder of the barrel or the front flat of the receiver where the two touch each other, to the left or right, could be causing this. Same thing with the mount. It's an issue of harmonics. When the rifle fires, it vibrates like a tu...

Re: Mossberg MVP Patrol, Scope and Mount, 7.62

My theory; when the rifle is cold, the barrel is ever so slightly loose in the receiver and shot placement is randomized with the barrel in a slightly different position for each shot. With a hot barrel, it's slightly larger and not loose anymore. Good thought, and I'll look at that, but I did take...

Re: Remington R25 308? yes, no, does anybody have any compla

My cousin has one for hog hunting and it has served him well. He replaced the trigger with a Geissele and has a quality scope and says he cleans it once a year. He's killed more hogs than I ever will and he has no complaints with the Remington. I have a SIG 716 and think it is a great rifle, but I d...

Re: Mossberg MVP Patrol, Scope and Mount, 7.62

Well, I've got the Mossberg MVP 308 fitted with a Leupold scope on a LaRue mount and I've tested lots of rounds through her and I can't get much to work right. I'm going to keep the scope and sell the gun, unless anyone can tell me how to get this thing to shoot well. BTW, I've got rifles I can shoo...

Re: Mossberg MVP Patrol, Scope and Mount, 7.62

I'd go through the rifle and pull every screw, clean the screw and holes gently, and re-torque/loctite everything including the scope base. There have been intermittent issues with stuff not being correctly torqued, either from the factory or from someone dicking around with it that shouldn't have ...

Re: Mossberg MVP Patrol, Scope and Mount, 7.62

EGW makes their rails with the split too. nobody on MVP forum is breaking rails or having issues with the rails As LaRue explained, the rail won't get damaged, the scope mount where it indexes on the rail will slowly get chipped at until it effects return to zero. With a Mil Spec rail, there Is a c...

Re: Mossberg MVP Patrol, Scope and Mount, 7.62

For mounts, there's several options. Warne QD rings are probably the cheapest and lightest, but I've never used them. Bumping the price up, you can get American Defense [what mine wears], LaRue, Bobro, and a few others that will allow you to pull the scope with a single lever, mount and all, LaRue ...

Re: Mossberg MVP Patrol, Scope and Mount, 7.62

Sight in the iron sights, then mount your scope and forget the irons are there. Good idea, and that'll probably be the reality. What magnification are you after? Whatever I can get to fit, really. 3x9 or in that realm would work. I'm open-minded. Warne "low" QD rings: http://www.midwayusa.com/produ...

Re: Mossberg MVP Patrol, Scope and Mount, 7.62

I don't have a specific answer to your question, but I might have some input that may help your decision. Thank you for your thoughts, JeeperCreeper. You've helped clarify my questions. The Mossberg MVP Patrol is a bolt action with a 1 piece rail over the bolt, much like an AR rail, but it has a ch...

Mossberg MVP Patrol, Scope and Mount, 7.62

I'm trying to find a scope and mount for a Mossberg MVP patrol in 7.62. This rifle has the rear iron sight on the barrel and a complete rail over the bolt. I'm having trouble finding a scope that'll fit on the provided rail and fit in the space behind the rear iron sight. Larue Mounts suggested I bu...

Re: Rare H&K Semi Auto Hunting Rifle Review

Thanks for the article. I remember this rifle and think I saw it on the shelf a few times, but I never used one. I always thought it was sharp looking. Aside from the parts and accessory issues, still would be a cool rifle to have.

Re: Pistol Carbine for BOB

I've been thinking about a pistol caliber carbine for years. Tried the SUB 2000 and it just wasn't rugged enough and 5 MOA at 100 just wasn't much fun. Sig has the new MPX in a pistol with a forearm brace that looks very encouraging. The right size and looks to be functional, especially with the sho...

Re: Tavor Mods and Timney trigger review

Thanks for the advise. I just want to be able to fire it weak-side with ease. I was advised to buy with the MEPRO because it is an excellent sight for the added price, which I agree, but I like your advise better. If I can't try new optics, I get bored. I've heard the same thing about the BUIS being...

Re: Tavor Mods and Timney trigger review

The TAVOR seems to be winning the battle for the next big thing.

So you would suggest buying the flat-top version?

Have you had ANY issues firing Left Handed?

Thanks for posting your research.

Re: The best polar rifle ever

Anyone heard of the Frozen Chosin? I read an article on them once (NRA mag?) and I think they had to shoot their weapons without any lube to deal with the cold. It was described as a battle in the coldest conditions in Korea. Having served in Korea I don't doubt that was an awful event. Worst weathe...

Re: Sig 716 ammo

Another thing: the Sig barrel seems to be very sensitive to heat. The hotter the barrel the wider the shot group. Also, the longer I leave a round in a hot barrel the wider the shot group. I understand the rough reason for this, but this is far more pronounced than with my 556 AR.

Re: Sig 716 ammo

Try a few different weight handloads. I like to use Nosler and Hornady. I'd go with 150, 165 and a 175gr hornady AMAX/VMAX with a varget or H4895. Also the 125 Nolser Ballistic tip does very well for me. So far the 150 gr has been unimpressive in every bullet type. I should hand load, but so far as...

What's the shortest Glock mag it will take? Like a G19 size?

Sig 716 ammo

I just got a Sig 716 for hog hunting and have been disappointed with the accuracy so far. The only rounds that have worked well have been Federal 165 gr bonded SP, which cost 35 bucks a box. I've tried several bullets in the 150 gr weight and have been unimpressed; PMC, foreign surplus, DAG, Georgia...

Desert Tech MDR

I pray it will be real and work.

I'm not interested in any rifle I can't shoot weak side at a moments notice.

Does this seem like a priority moved too high on my list? I know the AUG is a great rifle, but I can't get past the right or left hand only operation.
