Re: What have you bought lately? (Bug Out Version)
MSR Pocket Rocket and a can of fuel. Been wanting one of these for a while, since I was looking for a "too tired to build a fire and want a quick meal before I pass out from exhaustion" stove. Next step is Snow Peak Titanium Cookware.

More abandoned Detroit:

I'm a former city planner and I like the idea of a resettlement program of the abandoned property in Detroit. I'd sign up if it happened.

Re: ALICE; Hellcat, Wildcat, Bobcat?
None of these ruck builds are hard to figure out once you start playing with the components. My advice would be to get the following: 1 x Med ALICE 1 x DEI 1606 "AC" frame 1 x ALICE shoulder straps set 1 x newest model MOLLE waistbelt This is what I currently have my personal gear in for a bug-out....

Re: Bankruptcy
I must concur with Raptor. Bankruptcy is not friendly to the average person. I watched my mom go through this in the mid 1990's (when the laws were "better") and we ended up (her, my brother, and I) living in a very dumpy, unsafe area for a long time because she did not have the credit to move out. ...

Re: Medieval Fortress in idaho
@Raptor: Yeah, perhaps not a scam, just not very well thought out. Essentially, they are building a small city. And an expensive one at that. Even small housing developments (50+ homes) can go into the 7 - 8 figure range after engineering, development fees, and infrastructure (especially infrastruct...

Re: Medieval Fortress in idaho
I used to be a city planner in Idaho. While I won't go into the legal hurdles as to why this will fail, I'll cover some of the more logistical ones. 1. Water. I read nothing in their proposal on how they are going to acquire water. Simply putting a couple of pumps in the river will not cover the wat...

My favorite gun store in Idaho, Alpha-Omega Armageddon Armory is selling 30 round mags for $112.99 EACH.

Re: The M-65 Field Jacket
I picked my M-65 at a city wide garage sale in Sumpter Oregon last year for $20. Practically brand new, but with no liner. W/o the liner, it's pretty warm and comfortable. Can't speak to its waterproofness though. Will pick up the liner next month.

I just mounted mine to my pack and wow, what a difference. It's noticeably lighter and more comfortable. I swear it feels like a whole different pack! Now I need the MSS sleep system (or something like it that fits in the MSS bag) and my bag is ready for some serious bugging out. Thanks to everyone ...

Re: What is your most likely TEOTWAWKI scenario?
Enough idiots will beleive some 2012 type scam one day and we'll we'll get our extended SHTF when they all stop going to work and try and hide but the TEOTWAWKI is so unlikely as to be slightly absurd. Yup I said it, I beleive the masses are dumb enough to actualy cause a SHTF scenario when it coul...

Re: Vehicle Bug Out Bag Prepping For SHTF
Thank you all for your help. That Comm bag looks especially promising. Since I don't leave Boise much, that would work and having a little bit of food (couple of power bars, jerky strip, stripped MRE) and water pouches would do the job well. And when I do leave town, the BOB usually gets thrown in t...

Re: Vehicle Bug Out Bag Prepping For SHTF
This is a great thread and I had a relevant question. I have a Ford Ranger single cab, so putting a conventional BOB in it full time is impractical. I don't want to use a bed box, since I do use all of the bed space on a frequent basis. What type of container or bag would you recommend for putting b...

Purchased Army issue heavy jacket at flea market. Mint condition, not even warn. I got it for a whopping $25 (army surplus in Boise sells for at least $50 min.). Staked out a secondary bug out location (if the chaos in Miami comes our way).

Re: Henry AR7 and Ruger 10/22 TD
The AR-7 is junk. I have one and despite some serious cleaning and shooting several types of ammo (from the cheap to the expensive), it jams constantly. I'll get my hands on a Ruger TD one day and use the AR-7 for target practice.

I once rented an apartment that was previously inhabited by a local drug dealer.
