Re: You are going 1000 years into the future.

The only thing that fits in your time capsule is a very naked you. You really must stop this. It's becoming embarrassing that you always think of me naked  What will the other ZS members think? (j/k ... if you want to keep thinking about me being naked all the time, go ahead...)

Re: GSG-5 SD now NFA (if you have one it is now illegal)

Mine isn't the SD model, but I'll keep an eye on this story.
I haven't fired my new GSG-5 yet and would hate to have any problems at my local range.

I'll call them before I take it out (planned for this weekend) to see if they have heard anything about this.

Re: Money Saving Tips

If you have a special person in your life - share a shower. Lowers the hot water bill, and can be really fun. Not always true. I have found out this method of "saving" can actually take WAY longer time and MORE water then the "one person shower" method. This activity in the shower usually ends when...

Re: Money Saving Tips

Shop smartly. That's what I do every week. The stuff I buy all the time is on sale at one place or the other. I check the weekly ads, then figure out what I need to purchase. I know so many neighbors that will spend Saturday and Sunday driving to one place, then heading home to unload, then head out...

Re: Taking Shelter In An Abandoed House

In a pinch...in a future 3 years into PAW, yeah...I'd spend the night in an abandoned house. It would have to be structurally sound (walls and roof) and have no signs of human habitation. As long as I knew it had no owner(s), human or animal to claim it, I'd do it. It would be only for one night, an...

If your is dad was thinking about buying some land as a possible BOL, I'd nudge him toward the mountains. This property would probably be used primarily as a vacation/weekend get-a-way...but so are most BOL's. With mountain property, when folks ask, "What did you do last weekend?" You can say, "Hiki...

Re: When cars are useless?

Shoes. The most important transportation "vehicle" in a PAW will be a good pair of shoes. Durable shoes that can handle long-distance walking, are comfortable, will keep your feet dry. If our BOV's stop running, horses have run-off or died, parts for bikes can't be found...walking is about all that'...

Re: supplies are low

Built up your supplies as you can now. It's always slow-going at first, unless you go balls-to-the-wall buying. When you go shopping, pick up some ready-to-eat (canned) stuff and "add-water" only foods. Make these items you normally use and rotate your stocks regularly. Might be boring spaghetti and...

Re: Incense and the stench of death

You will get used to the smell. I used to work at a medical waste incinerator for about 2 years. When it wasn't running (burning) we'd have to stockpile all sorts of medical waste for 2 or 3 weeks. We had no a/c in the building nor any refrigerator rooms for the "good stuff". We just piled it up. Tr...

Re: Career choices for an outdoorsman?

Okay maybe I should rephrase my question, who are the people you see on Discovery channel studying turtles in the galapagos and tucans in the amazon? A better option might be the person behind the camera. Those nature shows might have one "host", but there are a few people in the crew that travel a...

Big fires? grab my ammo cans and take a leisurely stroll down the creek to the deleware river. boat? swim? wade out about 15 feet? Must be the Pennypack creek or Tacony creek. Unless your up in the Greater Far NE, then it would be the Poquessing. Spend many a summer day fishing and swimming the Poq...

Re: Forced To Leave Your BIL....Now What?

I have figured out (at least I hope I have) that it's not good to "generalize" as broadly as I did. I tried to shove too much into one post where there can't be any proper replies. When I (the originator) can't focus down to a specific question, there can't be any good answers.... Better would have ...

Slightly off-topic: the "dirty bomb" was brought up few times and I just wanted to chime in. - "Dirty bomb" is a fictional weapon invented in Atlanta, GA... in CNN headquarters. Its never been used anywhere against anyone. "Dirty bomb" effectiveness is a variable determined only by one's imaginatio...

I began this post to see what others might be planning to do if they were forced to leave their BIL. I'm hoping to glean some information from those that might have put more time and thought into this bad situation. I've heard some good stuff, things I hadn't come up with on my own. The situation I ...
