Re: Things that go VROOM in the night; should I have called

I've made the same type of call before. There is a that is straight long enough for stupdity to reign at times. Generally I wouldn't be bothered calling as the cops already sit up there as it is. But one night just after bar closing I'm sitting on my back deck and I hear someone opening it up and th...

...I do see 40 page "books" priced at $12 to $15 and wonder what drugs the author is on. I also see 'professional' books for $200 to $500 and also wonder about recreational pharmaceutical use... Re: Stranded in your car in extreme winter?

Staying with the car is very dependent on location and type of emergency issue your having.

I'd say 90% of the time your staying with it, unless your eyeballing your destination or a place of safety from it.

It also varies court house to court house. Take Fairax County Va you can't have a multitude of things including anything with a camera(including phones), they tag it and return it to you when you walk out and hand them your tag. But in my home county Frederick County Va, really they only care about ...

Re: Look around, you can only save ONE

You do as much as you can, the best that you can, for as long as you can. And accept that in the end that it may not make any difference. That pretty much sums it up. Someone mentioned the fire extinguisher, maybe it buys you time maybe it doesn't. In my Jeeps it was always readily accessible and V...

Re: Travelling throughout the western United States

During my young and dumb years, a friend and I did that going West on I10 and came back East on I90 & I80. A one month trip during the Summer. We tent camped most of the time, every 3rd or 4th night we would get a motel room. Definitely an experience I wouldn't trade anything for. Bits of advice I'd...

Re: Lockdown situation as a substitute teacher

Many schools that are newer or recently retrofitted have mag locks so the office can hit a button for a lock down on top of a teacher manually locking the door. You should be able to ask as a sub what the procedure is for you during a lockdown. While we can provide all sorts of viable was to lock a ...

Its a very situation based scenario for various reactions. As you mentioned a bio incident. When TSHTF how did it happen? If it was a fast mover many of your medical responders and hospitals could be wiped before they even recognize it for the true threat it is. Your average American Doc doesn't hav...

Living in Va, it would be prepping for a long hard Winters for several years and possible one or two without real sun. It's why grow lights are in a storage trunk of the green house. Really the big danger is if it goes, what's to say it doesn't trigger a few other things with it's letting loose? San...

Re: You're on your way to work when...

Really depends on the amount of reaction time we are allowing for. Grabbing the BOB from the trunk/rear of cab seat. Begin hoofing it like crazy. If your talking a WWZ movie scenario, getting out of the fatal funnel of the highway would be good call. I wouldn't say so much perpendicular as more angl...

Think the OP was fine with his actions. Though this guy was pretty determined to get in. While ODA has a point on various laws, even within a state you can get different reactions to a Home Defense shooting. Down in Fairfax County, you might get grilled on it. Up where I live, the County cops would ...

Re: How can you relieve tension in battle

There is no single method that works, and honestly you will never know till it happens to you what will work for yourself.
Some laugh, some cry, some don't react at all. Heck some even rub one out.

Honestly just pray you never have to really worry about it.

I'd simply position myself to allow him into the fatal funnel upon entry. If I've already contacted 911, and was told they couldn't come i'd just put the phone down on speaker phone and wait for the door to fail. Now I do have to worry about where stray shots go being in a subdivision. Now in the 'a...

Yeah your scenario above is one of those call it in to the non-emergency line. Best case it wastes a bit of time for one of the traffic cops to drive through and check the guy out. That is one advantage of having two cops on my street with take home cruisers that work opposite shifts. Worst we've ha...

Re: Severely Autistic Person at the Door

A person with full spectrum autism is and can be many things. Instantly and wildly violent is one of those things. (Example - Friends of ours had a teenager with autism throw a set of barbells through an exterior wall. Yes, through, as in a big hole in the wall.) So, while bad intent may be lacking...
