Re: Defiance! New show from SYFY! Based in STL?

I didn't care for it. Falling Skies is a much better alien PAW imo. SyFy hasn't had a good program since BSG but it is good to see them getting back to more actual sci-fi instead of all this wrestling and paranormal crap.

Re: Limiting your Cache to Three Calibers...

Here's something I'm considering tonight as I sit on my super efficient 3 calibers: WTF do I do if I can't buy 9, 556, or 22lr? I've got a pile of each, but here's the thought: ammo is scarce now, and how long could it be scarce? (rhetorical). Something to be said for diversity. Exactly. I've...

Re: What have you bought in the last 48 hours?(firearms rela

I bought a Military IFAK on an auction site. The guy took a couple weeks to send it and didn't want me to give him a bad review so in addition the the FAK he also sent three patches (American flag and two unit patches), a compressed bandage and a 2nd smaller pouch and a USGI Okay M-16 mag and an em...

Re: December Gun Sales Background Checks Hit Record

Sales were probably much, much higher. Thats one check per visit. I got a background check tonight and walked out with 2 Mosins. I've heard stories of people with one check and walking out with 4 ARs.

Re: Save your .22 ammo

That's it. I already have 10,000 rds of .22LR but I'm going to go buy another three or four bricks when it can still be had for around the $20 range for 500 rds. Smart move. Even though you're in Canada and have a few sources of ammunition that Americans don't have, most of your ammunition and comp...

Re: Save your .22 ammo

Where I am I can find everything except .223 and .22lr, and most places haven't price gouged at all. So here's my question, why is everybody buying up all the .22lr? I mean, I get the .223, but .22lr seems like one of the last calibers you'd have to worry about getting banned. Because everyone real...

Re: So..... Red Dawn remake anyone?

This movie's ok. I grew up watching the original and prefer it to this one. I took my teenage niece and nephews to see it. They thought it was amazing and better than the original. Must be a generational thing.

Re: Best Discovery Channel Show for Survival knowledge

I really like Dual Survival and Survivorman. I think all 3 of those guys are pretty awesome and I've learned a lot from watching their shows (as well as youtube channel). I cannot stand Man, Woman, Wild! That guy annoys the crap out of me with all the "Baby, Honey, Sweetie, Babe" stuff. I can't tak...

Re: Best Discovery Channel Show for Survival knowledge

Hands down Dual Survival. Dave and Cody have a great "Odd Couple" interaction between them thats very entertaining. It's also good to see two different approaches. Between the two of them, their wealth of survival knowledge is incredible. Survivorman is very informative and it takes some big brass o...

Re: What oil in a BoB?

One thing I think is important in a weight limited BoB is multi use items. One I have been thinking about lately is oil. Oil can be used: as a fuel for a stove or lantern [kerosene]; or as a lubricant [for firearms or whet stone]; or as food [cooking oil]; or sometimes even medicinally [olive oil, ...

Re: Why matches?

I actually have 4 methods of firestarting in my fire kit. Firesteel, magnesium bar, Bic lighter, and lifeboat matches. I keep the matches for 2 reasons. 1. I might be be separated from loved ones during a disaster. They don't have a clue how to use a firesteel or magnesium bar(gotta remedy that) but...

Re: Bushcraft Basics: Backwoods wire

DrunkWookiee, do both black and white spruce work well? we got a TON of black around here, but LOTS of white as well. I would think they would seeing as black spruce is like white spruces retarded cousin. Know any other specific tree types that excel at root-rope making? Also, has anyone ever tried...

Re: My hasty attempt at a shelter.

Like others have said, more waterproofing. That stick roof would leak like a sieve. Other than that, awesome use of the resources at hand, including salvaging the rope. :)

Survivors should be good scavengers, making use of anything they find to improve their situation.
