Re: Firearms Chat: [2021 - Aw, FFS!]

I haven't had great luck with RIA, but have had great luck with Turkish guns. I'd go Tisas. The Tisas ones already have the feed ramps polished from the factory, so that's one big plus for them in my book. I figure that'd save me from having to get my gunsmith to polish the feed ramps later on. And...

Re: Has sleeping bag tech changed?

I forgot to ask. Is there any way to give a post a "thumbs up" here ? Many times I just want to acknowledge a post made by someone without writing out a story. Kind of a "hey great idea" thing. So you just give them a "thumbs up". Had it at one time, but had to back out of the software upgrade due ...

Re: We're going to shut down the ZS forums server after New Year's

Okay, we have the move scheduled to be done tonight and over Sunday. See y'all later! Are we running on the new server or are we still on the old one ? At this point I think I'm just going to cancel the move and rescind my offer of server space if we can't get it done soon. So I guess we're still o...

Re: Map organizer?

I've gotten my paper maps secondhand, in that since no one in my family travels much anymore I end up saving the old maps from the garbage whenever someone wants to toss one. I've got two or three Texas maps in my room next to my desk as we speak. Other than that, I've seen maps in the automotive se...

Re: Firearms Chat: [2021 - Aw, FFS!]

Dunno about Tisas, but RIA seems to have a really good reputation as a budget 1911. Good luck finding one in stock, though. :\ No kidding. Tisas seems to have a decent reputation much like RIA. Not really sure I need a 1911 with a rail, though. I may just go ahead and pick up another RIA 1911 and m...

Re: Firearms Chat: [2021 - Aw, FFS!]

I'm thinking of either getting a RIA 1911 like the one I had years ago or one of those Tisas B45R 1911s with the rail on the frame. The RIA is like 529 at Classic Firearms and the Tisas is 479 the last I checked. Both are good guns from what the reviews say, but I've had more experience with the RIA...

Re: Surviving Post-Election Fallout and Mayhem

At the very least, I do not expect ammo prices/availability to improve any time soon. Availability seems to be slowly coming back as people reach their storage limits and the panic buying slows down. I'm sure a lot of barely used guns will start hitting pawn shops soon. If that's the case, maybe I ...

Whiney. To tomorrow..." what is this box in my closet?"
Probably.

Although it'll be more like "What's in this box ? Ooh, gun parts I forgot I had."

Ok, so after a few years of re-writes and changes, I've decided to come back to this story and update it with the updates I've been working on. Sections have been rewritten, starting with the opening, but for the most part it's the same story. Some things have been changed to help the story flow be...

Re: Firearms Chat: [2021 - Aw, FFS!]

I got bored today and organized my gun parts drawers. Stuff I don't use on a constant basis went into a little wooden box I picked up at a yard sale a few months back and the rest of it stayed in the parts drawers. The wooden box o' random crap went into my closet where it'll stay until I need it or...

Re: Firearms Fails: The Wall of Shame

In one of my old houses, there's a crescent shaped dent in the wall of what had been my bedroom. Reason for that is I accidentally launched the top cover of my old SKS into it once while field stripping it. I had forgotten to let the bolt go forward because I had it locked back so I could cle...

Re: Firearms Fails: The Wall of Shame

I've got a Barska .22lr scope I picked up for like 10 bucks at a local store that was going out of business. My eyesight blows thanks to astigmatism (I'm seriously considering getting Lasik this year) and despite that, everything is clear as crystal when I look through it. Only problem is I don't ha...

Re: There's no time like the end of times for a good Bourbon

I think the most I've paid for booze is like 20 bucks and that was for a bottle of Parrot Bay rum at a Walgreen's in New Mexico. I live in a wet county, but only for beer. Hard liquor and spirits aren't allowed for sale for some reason. If I want bourbon or similar, I have to drive to Odessa to get ...

Re: There's no time like the end of times for a good Bourbon

What is Blanton's and why is it in such high demand ? I ask because I saw an ad in a local sales group that someone wanted either cash or two bottles of Blanton's for whatever the person was selling. I know it's booze, but I'm curious as to why someone would want to trade a high dollar item (I think...

Re: 12GA rifle from hell

I can't remember if I've asked this previously or not, but what's the recoil of one of these guns like ? What is it comparable to ? I mean is it sort of like shooting a 12 gauge with magnum loads or is it more like a .50 BMG or even like an elephant gun (something like a .458 Lott or a .500 Nitro) ?

Re: My Job, My Hell...

Which version of the M3 did y'all have back then ? The early one with the crank or the later one that you had to use a finger to cock it ? The ones I used were the M3A1 series, they used a "finger hole" in the bolt to draw the bolt section rearwards. The dust cover was the safety. While I was in Ko...

Picked up a Crimson Trace CTS-25 red dot optic today from Academy (first time in a couple months I was able to get to the local one) along with a spare parts kit from XTS for my AR and a Magpul ladder rail panel. Paid about 70 bucks for the CTS-25, which surprised me since I figured Crimson Trace s...

Re: Firearms Chat: [2021 - Aw, FFS!]

So I did a little more research on the Panzer Arms M4 and I found out it will use Benelli M4 accessories since it's pretty much a direct clone. That means if I were to pick one up, I could slap on a mag extension and bring up the mag capacity from 5+1 to 7+1. Still not as much as one of the AR12's,...
