Re: Cast Iron Skillets for Everyday Use and Beyond.

This thread deserves a bump :) I've got a single cast iron skillet, an 8" Aaron Sanchez branded one (don't judge, it was a TK Maxx bargain!) that gets occasional use on the stove-top. It's enamelled on the outside so I'm reluctant to take it out of the house and use it on an open fire. However I'm ...

I am partial to the Leatherman Core, but you will see a lot of Leatherman Waves around here too.

Both of them are within your budget and are quality.

Re: What if the government were evacuating

No way in hell am I ever going to willingly be rounded up with thousands of other people and put in a sports arena or a camp.

My AoO is rural enough I would be just fine for quite a while before having to move on.

A (reasonably) family friendly teotwawki board game?

My oldest children are 8 and 6, Im looking for a board game that teaches or introduces basic survival skills in a fun and challenging way but is simple enough for the 7 to 10 range. D&D would over complicate things, even something Talisman-like would be a bit too much. Anyone know of a TEOTWAWKI boa...

...

I'm fairly certain this entire post is an attempt at humor.

... I hope. :clownshoes:

That being said, that rail mounted 22 'thing' is the biggest piece of crap ever to hold gunpowder.

Re: Tavor vs AR-15 & Mini-14.

So, turns out raptor is correct. Although stamped 223 Ranch Rifle, the manufacturer says that 556 (according to their website) is just fine and still warranties the rifle if you use 556. I'll admit it goes against the very fiber of my being to put 556 in a 223 rifle but given the paragraph of safety...

Re: Does backpacking gear color truly offend others?

I can see both sides. Bright colors are found in nature and in the wild they have their uses. Orange keeps you from getting shot by hunters in the wild (hopefully), and mellow earth tones let you meld in with nature. Personally, when camping I wear mellow earth tones, but an orange watch cap (beanie...

Re: Does backpacking gear color truly offend others?

These days it seems people get offended for anything and everything. It appears to be a new hobby for some "what offends me today". What did you say?! Thats my trigger! How dare you! I am thoroughly offended by raptor's use of a velociraptor with a rocket pack. As a casual and amateur paleontologis...

Re: Heaping helping of 'hawks

Thanks, Merovech. I knew not everyone would want a spike on their 'hawk, and the hammer poll will do a lot of impact damage if it ever gets employed in combat. I know a lot of military use the spike in the desert and combat operations, I've always been worried I'd spike myself in the head with the ...

Re: Tavor vs AR-15 & Mini-14.

I like mini 14s. I have owned three (2 blue and 1 SS). I still have the SS for a marine environment. That said the AR-15 has a key advantage here. The reason I say this is not to start an AR vs mini discussion but rather to make an observation. The Tavor and the AR use the same magazines whereas th...

Tavor vs AR-15 & Mini-14.

Please don't destroy this thread with AR vs Mini-14 wars, thats not the purpose here. I am considering selling one of my AR-15s and my Mini-14 in favor of a Tavor. The firearm would be used to fill the role of patrolling my AoO, and general defense. I grew up on the Mini-14, I know the gun and I lo...

20/30 year 5 gallon Bucket Food Storage - I have Questions.

I have been reading up a lot on the long term 20/30 year 5 Gallon Food Buckets. Seems pretty straightforward, but I want to make sure I am doing this right and I have a few other questions. I will start with what I have done. I have purchased 8, 5 gallon food safe buckets with lids. (I have a mallet...

Anyone have word on the new Magpul D-60 Drum Magazines?

Quick and easy question, I did a search (google and this board) and came up empty.

Does anyone know when the Magpul D-60 Drum Magazines are set to be released? Everything I see has them 'Delayed' or 'Behind Schedule'.

I had a cold steel hawk, the edge folded over the first time I took it to a branch of dried wood.

Alternatively, I have two tomahawks from 2hawks and they are champs and worth double what they ask for them.

I have a Seiko 5, you can get one for less than $60 off Amazon and they are great. I have purchased a lot of watches in the 200 to 500$ range and the Seiko 5 is still my favorite and the best.

Returning, not sure why I walked away for so long.

Good morning ZS'rs. Been gone a while, I thought it was worth a new introduction post. I was once quite active, but life, kids, several moves and all sorts of life chaos has gotten in the way. I hope that ZS is still the friendly, open and practical place it used to be a few years ago. This place ha...

Yea, toasting it is the way to go. In the wild you can toast it over a skillet which is what I normally do.

Dripping some butter over it a bit (With the Raisin Kind) also makes it pretty good.

Easy Cheese is gross Murph... wth... ugh! I really like coconut milk over my rice, so Id like to have a few of those. I would double up on peanut butter, rice and B&M bread. But overall looks like a pretty solid list. Definantly throw in some comfort stuff, candy, goldfish, candy goldfish... T...

Most REAL WORLD Bug-Out situations are not "survival situations"...as much as we may "want them to be"... Fair enough, and I do agree. Most of the time when I see BoBs full of wires and batteries it is to make up for a total lack of skills or some psychological need for electricity and/or gadgetry....
