Re: NNY2011WCT! February 4-7

Sorry guys, I thought I had posted on wednesday or thursday that I wasn't going to make it, but it was a quick comment and I didn't verify that it had posted correctly. Now that i've seen your pics i'm doubly pissed off at not making the trip. I had all my gear laid out and ready to go on wednesday ...

Re: NNY2011WCT! February 4-7

I've used my old camelbak as an air/water pillow before, and my past two newer water bladders have worked very well too. A Northface bladder I had had a plastic outlet on the badder though, and after a particularly bad wreck on my mountain bike it cracked and began leaking. My main concern with leak...

Re: NNY2011WCT! February 4-7

I still plan on being there on thursday evening,.....am I the only one? I had originally planned on leaving on sunday, but if my boss OK's it i'll try and stay till monday. The Ice Castle looks awesome after dark, so it makes a great evening trip. I didn't have time to go to the barrens hang this ye...

Re: Rappelling? Belaying?

Are they hard to find these days? It's been a long time since i've gone climbing. No, not for sale, and my excuses are terrible..... 1. I like to have them "just in case". 2. They are somewhere in the basement storage, but I have no idea where exactly. 3. They are "well used", so while I know their ...

Ha! Grats guys, good stuff.

Too bad someone on the HH forums had to competitively quantify what "cold" really is.

Re: Rappelling? Belaying?

If I was still climbing then i'd probably snag it from ya,....but since I doubt I could even boulder now, let alone lead or dyno, i'll have to pass.
I still have some old figure eights around here somewhere anyway.

Bump for the Grigri though, nice piece there.

Re: NNY2011WCT! February 4-7

Cool, .......literally. It looks like there is more snow on the ground than last year, but not as much as a couple years ago. The roads look clear enough for my car, but i'll be bringing a more condition specific vehicle this time anyways. Bster - That first sunset pic is epic. NFA - How were the pa...

Electronics - I came up last year with a fully charged cell-phone,...but forgot to bring a charger. So, on the first night I arrived I made a schedule with my GF informing her I would check in every morning and evening, but turn my phone off the rest of the time. After 3 days of sub-zero temps I wen...

I'll reinforce the hat and gloves to sleep with too. In addition, and I know its been said before but, 100% cotton is bad. I wear a thinner cotton/poly blend hat during the times when i'm active and it's warmer, but I can almost feel it's insulation strength drop throughout the day due to moisture b...

Re: NNY2011WCT! February 4-7

Ya know I took a minute to think about a response to the repost of an old photo. I thought about making fun of someone for simulating their sexual fantasies with an unattainable guy like me while I slept. But in the end I can see it all in a positive light. Good, and you should make fun in return, ...

*cough* Timber! *cough* Of course I dish it out and take a ton of it, heck I even enjoy making others laugh by making fun of myself (my mom was a big subject last year at the WCT) .....but if it's unwanted, or the person isn't aware, not cool. That's so passe,....we did that last year.

For 2011 we need something fresh, something new, something wild and exciting,....something like....

Baby jello and oil shots!

I'm up for trying a snow-portage of sorts but, not having snowshoes myself, it will depend on snow conditions. I do have some new gaitors to try out so we'll see. If its not in the cards then i'm happy pulling security back at base camp. Hopefully our radios will work better this year. Should be dis...

I ate only about 1/3 of what I brought last trip,.....so what I can do instead of being more efficient is just bring the same amount of a variety of stuff. I just have not yet decided what that will be yet. I am bringin' the portable propane Weber this time though, so maybe I can pull of some burger...

I'll add my .02 to the low temp gear discussion.... I am typically very warm blooded, so much so that so far this year i've only been putting around in a t-shirt and insulated hoody this year. If i'm shoveling snow than a t-shirt and hat is enough to stay comfortable. Famine, on the other hand, seem...

Re: Brian Aitken, NJ gun owner railroaded in court.

What's the story on the possession of "dum-dum" bullets all about? Basically, hollowpoints, or any of the various kinds of expanding type rounds. I've been shooting in NJ many times, and there are ranges, clubs, and assorted shooting events all over the state. So while I agree that NJ sucks as far ...

4th thru 7th is what i'm down for.

I'll be bringing my "big" grill from home too, a Weber Q200 propane grill, to see how well it works in the cold temps.

Re: Spec Ops Butt Pack

When they gave us buttpacks most never put them on since we did 90% of our work in vehicles. Folks just put them on their rucks and filled them with food and jack mags. Agreed. The limited mobile work I did we simply loaded the molle vest as needed. The first gen molle buttpack(man purse) was a jok...

Re: t.h.e. pack pictures and idea

My fix would be to buy a small silnylon sack/sleeve to keep the water out, then just leave the pack as is. Weight and space would be negligible, and the sleeve could help protect documents if needed too.
