Gotta love a blizzard

We are still digging out of a blizzard, and I got to watch the early parts of it as I spent more than two days stuck at work. I work at a news station, so I was well aware of the system coming in and exactly how bad it could become. Luckily we didn't hit the highest possible levels of snow. But, thi...

Re: Stuck with a non-working vehicle 3 degrees outside

I appreciate the suggestions and advice all. I wanted to respond sooner, but life kinda came at me and everything got super busy. But, the truck wasn't getting any fuel at all. Upon the investigations since, and my truck had issues all winter, the glow plugs need replaced, the block heated no longer...

Stuck with a non-working vehicle 3 degrees outside

My truck needs work. The coolant leaks, the alternator is likely going bad, and I don't think my glow plugs are working anymore. It's caused issues, but I don't currently have the money it would take to fix it all. A couple years without a job drained all saving. But, now I have two jobs and find my...

Re: Starting the Morning Right

Yeah, and the lock down was lifted pretty quickly. But, people from campus are saying there is still an increased police presence in the area. I am curious to see how long it takes to catch the second guy, and good to know the campus alert is useful for things other than saying there was ice storm, ...

Starting the Morning Right

I was just emailed, called, and texted this: There is an emergency situation at L C U. A dangerous suspect/s are on the loose in the area. Everyone stay inside until further notice. Seems a suspect in a violent crime is thought to be near or on a university/high school campus--they are adjacent. Bot...

Re: Taste testing newly purchased preps

They make a really good product. The only one I have had trouble with is the chicken noodle -- the veggies never cooked through. I like breaking down into smaller bags for on the trail. Mixed with a protein and some filler they are good and easy meals to mix up.

Re: Bacpacjac's Spring > Summer BOB - Updated Pics

I like everything I am seeing, and it seems that your Cub Scouts get a bigger work out then most of the Cub's in my area. I am curious though; you carry a large fixed blade knife. Are you allowed to carry one in scouts because you are a leader, or are scouts also allowed to carry fixed blade knives?...

Re: MEMA urges parents to teach preparedness

We did this in Cub Scouts as well, and as a Boy Scout we went and did this with the Cub Scouts. MEMA is doing good, we do this in all of our schools anyhow, but then we are smack center of Tornado Alley.

Re: strangest thing you have ever seen

Last semester, as I was driving to school, I saw a guy standing on the corner of a cemetery dressed in black robes and holding a actual scythe. No, it was not Halloween. I don't know what was up but saying odd doesn't quite cover it.

Re: Anyone here read Max Brooks's "Zombie Survival Guide"

Yea I seen a tribute to Mel Brooks about 2 years ago when I was reading WWZ and the introduced his son and I was as all "WTF!" :ooh: Its weird he got famous for Zombie stuff, he did some cartoon voice over work and minor acting in comedy/family shows, and was a writer for SNL. Yet his first two boo...

Re: Boy Scouts and an emergency situation....

Scouts, especially those of us who camp in so-called hazardous areas really get used to it. I live in the middle of tornado alley and have seen multiple tornadoes, all during camping trips. And, each time I was with the scouts. Everything was done orderly and quickly to get to the designated shelter...

I just finished this one, again. One of the best threads I have seen about how things really are, anywhere. And, to echo so many others this thread helped get my wife to take things a little more seriously when I first showed it to her.

My cookset is a hodge podge of items. I will edit with pictures whenever I am able to get some. I use a Condor 10x4 water bottle pouch, coffee can, Stanley Adventure Steel Cook Set, GSI Steel Water bottle - 32oz, tapered - GSI steel cup. I put the lid for the Stanley cooker in the bottom. The coffee...

Re: The Day of EDC Victory

This afternoon I was at the store with my brother and son. Suddenly people start rushing outside and pulling out cameras. We had already paid and were heading out anyhow so when we got outside and I looked to my left. I then saw the biggest dirt storm I've ever seen. I live in west Texas I've seen d...

Re: Highschool of the Dead anime

My brother is much more into anime than I am and pointed this show out to me. I must say I really like it so far with the exception of the random breast jiggles and panty shots. They just really snap me out of the show and into 'huh' land. Maybe if I watched more anime than I do it wouldn't strike m...

Re: Due to recent STL events; how do you plan for a Tornado/

Basically everything they said. Have all your preps ready, food, water, everything needs to be in order. If you have no basement or safe room there are a few things you can do and hope for. Get to the center most room in the house, without windows and get on the floor head between your knees and arm...

I'm a big guy, about 6'2" and right at 330 pounds right now, seems that while my wife is the one that's pregnant I'm the one eating all the food. I was even bigger in high school I would work out at least 18 hours a week and was pushing 370, I was bigger then every guy on the football team and in fa...

Re: Police response times

Times are gonna depend on where you are. Where I am if there's a call it should take more than five minutes for the cops to get anywhere once they get the call. They don't have anything else to do anyhow. There are at least 3 cops a day who hang out in the church parking lot across the street, not f...

I like the stove one. I don't have that style of stove and it would save me from having to make a little alcohol one like I've been planning on. They also seem to be really light I think I'll pick one up and give it a try.

Re: Door Jamb Armour, Security Screen Door , Install and review.

Saw a video of these from a local tv station. They were doing a review and took it to the next level and had the local SWAT team go at it. They got through with a battering, and by through i mean ended up after 20 something minutes of beating on the door split in half. I will be getting some for all...
