Re: combat communication

Re: Sub $100 "BORK" [first post]

Nice review let the whiners, whine LOL, only if you transmit out of band (which all hams never do) icom, kenwood, yeasu & alinco & not to mention the others have to be wary about these & the wouxuns that are invading the market for portable VHF & UHF roll up antennas I prefer a coaxial sleeve dipole...

Re: Technician Class Interstate Communication Setup

Jamie if you go with 10m you will most likely miss the stations close(st)(er) to you. On ten the signals carry over the terrain nicely at best (on ssb) and around 100 miles +/- if makes it first hop. I have found that stations within the first 50 miles are no problem and beyond that out to say 200+ ...

Re: Anyone on 33cm?

This is a use it or lose it situation, folks. If nobody's using that band, some entity with deep pockets may decide they want it. edit: let me rephrase that. Entities already want the band. If the band isn't being used, the FCC may decide to give it to them that is why there is a Amateur Radio Spec...

Re: Spork = Not so impressed.

I could never figure this one out..... The Government had to have a gazillion of the short MRE spoons already so why not keep'em & just put the tear notches along the sides of the MRE pouches instead of at the top?! I tear mine open this way any how. It keeps my dick beaters outta my chow & is defi...

Re: British Basher "basha" Shelter ~ Review ~ 56K

I have the hennessy hex fly (not sure what weight though) I have to say that the Hennessy is heavier, however for my purposes, I feel it is above the basher for my needs its neat to see so many of you looking for these now On a side note I can get the hennessy to compress and pack smaller then the b...

Re: Ultralight shelters and......BUGS.

I have a back issue, so sleeping on the ground is out & I too say to go with a hammock if your terrain permits Even with the Henessy 4 season super shelter insulation I froze my azz off, so if extreme cold is your worry, maybe not mine is the expedition asym http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv217/...

This would kind of break the habit of the last few & hopefully mix things up a bit, or it may become stale ...while letting a large portion of us here to participate that can not other...

Re: Sleep System Indecisions

I didnt read all the posts, but if you compress your sleeping bag while in the hammock you lose all insulating value
you really need an underquilt to combat that issue
