Re: Hand Strength and Bowie/large knife use.

What about some kodegeish(sp) type stretches? I am working with knives nearly daily, even if its breifly, as well as various joint locking methods. I'm not as flexible as i was in my teens, doing jujutsu several hours a week, but i have not run into real problems as of yet. What actions bother you w...

Thanks! The tendency for me is let the video do the talking, but i suppose it would help to generate some interest.

Re: Carry/survival handguns

1) Buy a good gun, a proven model from a good brand, 2) learn all there is to know about function/malfunction/maintenance/smithing that model 3) get training 4) practice your ass off
5) get squared away logistically 6) duplicate the weapon.....

.. and it will not matter what gun you have.

Some like inexpensive knives and think they are OK. I'm not saying less expensive knives are junk...but they often are.

Re: Teach me on TOPS KNIVES- review, recommendation etc...

Absolutely, Sword! I use all my knives pretty hard, especially the ones i make. the only knife that i don't use AS hard is my Bagwell Helles Belle- not because it CAN'T, but because i like to preserve it for more refined uses. I'm pretty suspect of those who say they are doing things with thier gear...

Re: Teach me on TOPS KNIVES- review, recommendation etc...

Tops knives are well constructed knives of good materials and heat treat ( though not differential, IIRC) with a lack of edge geometry on some models.I am the original railroad engineer, and most are overweight. I had a Tops tracker I got in a trade. as delivered, useless, and NOT true to the origi...

Re: Anybody EDC fixed blades?

fixed blades are where its at. I have cairried them in what is referred to as "non-permissive" environments- CA, Boston, ect. With the right sheathing and panning its no big deal. Currectly,my primary EDC is a 4 1/2" blade i made in a kydex sheath, strong side forward of my pistol. Folders are alre...

A big caution about doing so, as you'll damage your knife.

Re: Bowie chopping vid.

I've done a good deal of chopping with my 9" kabar bowie, and it really does work pretty well considering the size. I'd say 9" is about the minimum length I feel I would feel comfortable chopping with, anything less and it would be like "hacking" than chopping. The handle shape on mine really lends...

Re: Bowie chopping vid.

Have you ever had any damage to a knife from chopping? had an edge ripple a little from a hard-assed beech sapling, but that was a while ago, changed things since then. Minor dings, mostly from hitting rocks while chopping. Tip of one of the bowies was blunted by 1/16" by throwing. as long as i am ...
