Re: would you join in on a weekly net?

I would be interested in a net and have 160m-70cm available. I'm in a nightly net now that starts at 7pm pacific time and can work coast to coast while mobile on 40m with 100w, so that might be a band and time to consider. About an hour later at 8pm pacific 80m kicks in coast to coast. Radio Guy ok...

Re: Small solar: Boost-Regulator unit?

buck-boost regulators are somewhat common, but cost more than either kind on it's own, so someone needs a special reason to make one, so there are not lots out there there are lots of off the shelf boards that will convert to 5V with 3 to 5.5 V in... here is a chip that does 3 to 10 V in with some e...

Real_Ale_Act, looks like you got the same tiller that I got (I like it) it is amazing what a gallon of fuel can do if you get to see the work it is doing. I have been planning my 2011 garden from last fall, I will be tilling the land and putting up a fence this weekend. then planting in 2 weeks it s...

I think that you are suppose to wash off very gentile so that you don't mess up the skin so that there are no spots for the dust to hide in, caustic things like nair will make the radiation stick very well if you don't wash off the dust first, or you could just wear a hat and wear full covering clot...

Re: Handgun for my sister.

it is not that possible to hide any gun in a dress, most women I know like a single stack mag or a revolver because of the smaller grip size think about a CCW purse and a heavy gun for the lighter recoil. I have an LCR and it hurts to shoot even though it is only firing a 38 the recoil from a 9mm ca...

Re: Cast Iron Skillets for Everyday Use and Beyond.

if you still have plastic on it when summer gets here,
put it on the grill or camp fire outside and burn it off, then scrape the charred plastic with a wire brush and burn that off,
that method gets off almost anything, just can't be done inside and you do have to re season it then.

Re: One Second After

Vindictus, I agree with you, the issue is that there are not enough extra parts to fix things after an EMP, so you could fix one area, but the rest will have to wait for more parts to be built, and that will take a long while, the biggest thing that will get us is in the oil infrastructure, mainly t...

Blacksmith wrote:When does winter wheat come in?
it is planted in the fall and goes dormant for the winter and then shoots up fast when the snow melts
so harvest is a little sooner than the spring wheat,
so it should be a few months after the snow melts.

Re: EMP - a discussion on what will happen

yea, no one really knows, but we can still make a good guess I have researched lots on this topic and hope I have some good ideas, the biggest thing that will get hurt is the oil distribution and refining systems, so expect gas to be no longer available. next the lack of fuel will cause the food to ...

Re: 7 Reasons Food Shortages Will Become a Global Crisis

most farmers often have no alternative if the GMO crops don't work, and the GMOs are not doing what they did before, so we are already seeing 15% less farm output for it. also the farm output has historically followed the sun spot cycle, few spots tend to have less farm output, and we are at a minim...

I bet you can just run the cable through the back hatch
the weather striping likely has enough room for the cable to pass through

most people just run the cable through a seal in the trunk, or something, if you look you may find a spot where it can fit without drilling any hole I don't know the layout of your jeep so I am not sure I can help to much. what kind of jeep ? and you might want to think about an antenna that you dri...

Re: Air Band/Shortwave Gurus

you are likely pulling in an FM commercial station, if you are in the 120MHz area for your air band, your ideal antenna will be much shorter than 20-25 foot, I would say 23 inches at 122MHz and 21 inches for your 135.8MHz and the aircraft band is AM so it tends to get interference more than you are ...
