Re: Zombie flesh: toxic or infectious?

Well, if you're inclined toward the Max Brooks' school of thought, Z flesh is toxic rather than infectious. While I think that guy has some great ideas and some decent advice, I don't see how consuming Zack's flesh wouldn't result in reanimation. I think Z flesh could be both toxic and infectious, b...

Re: airballrad's BOB 3.0

Well, this thread confirms it for me. That Friskars hatchet is replacing the cheap POS we have. Wouldn't hurt to pick up a sheath for it, though.

Re: Proper name for a group of zombies?

I'm new and this thread looks like a helluva lot of fun, so at the risk of beating a dead Zed.... Personally, I prefer the term "Zack." It's nice because you don't have to worry about the actual term designating the number. Examples: "This place is crawling with Zack," "Lookouts just confirmed visua...

Re: DZMBT "Delayed Zombie Mob Bomb Theory"

I simply question the effect of explosives on a horde, in general. At best, you could hope for a few kills in the immediate vicinity. In terms of suicide missions, it would probably be more effective to just give the person as many weapons as you can spare and ask them to take out as many as they ca...

Re: airballrad's BOB 3.0

Hmm... I damn near bought that same Friskar's hatchet this past weekend. The one I have is a cheapie. I'll probably end up going back for it. Very cool bag. I'm getting lots of good ideas.

Re: Fortress problem, needs a Kill Pit

I think when talking about kill pits, traps and the like, it's important to consider the "resource to kill ratio." Will the plan work in that you are getting the maximum number of kills to justify the use of resources? Some of the contraptions suggested here sound great in theory, but many sound lik...

Re: Help with first BOB

Jay, Thanks for the perspective. The clothing issue is definitely the most annoying. The two pairs of jeans alone take up way too much space. The sweater is just as bad. I'm thinking I would eventually like to have two pairs of more appropriate pants in my BOB, in vac-seal bags. As long as they take...

Re: Help with first BOB

I did some more updating/tweaking of my first-ever BOB this weekend. Here are the results. There's still so much to do. I really want to upgrade some of the basic items with higher-quality stuff. Again, I'm going to do it over time. I'm still facing a lot of the same issues as before, but I have mad...

The solid-color version from Sportsman's Guide looks like a pretty good deal.

Re: Help with first BOB

I took some of the suggestions/feedback I received from you guys and tweaked my basic BOB a little. At this point, I'm still working with things around my house and from Wal-Mart. The plan, as I said, is to get working BOBs for me and my wife (and a supplemental bag for our daughter). Once we have t...

Re: New here from WV!!!

Where in WV do you live? You can get ALICE packs and other milsur items in Rodgers Ohio for very good prices. I think Rodgers is only about 20 minutes from Chester. I'm pretty close to the Ohio border. I may check that out. I'm not familiar with Rodgers or Chester. How far are they from Marietta? W...

Re: Help with first BOB

Great suggestions all around. Iron Raven, thank you for such an in-depth reply. I've got a fantastic list of things to get now thanks to you guys. A couple folks mentioned the mag-lite and d-cells not being weight economical. I can't argue with that at all. I just have this deep love of mag-lites an...

Re: Help with first BOB

SPG, Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate 'em. Good info. That sounds like a reasonable price for the ALICE. What kind of places carry paracord? The AS stores do, I figure. Maybe I can pick some up there. Even though the backpack I have is fairly low-grade, it actually is equipped for a water bl...

Help with first BOB

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum, for those who missed my introduction post, and I'm just getting into preparedness. I'm working on my first BOB and thought I'd post its contents for some suggestions. My plan is to do what I can now within my budget (which isn't huge) to get a working BOB going....

Re: New here from WV!!!

My strategy was to get everything as fast as I could afford to (even if it was cheap WalMart crap), and then slowly replace it with better quality stuff. As you replace the cheap stuff, you can use it to create another set as backup or to help your wife fill hers out, or to give to a friend to get ...

Re: New here from WV!!!

airballrad, Thanks for the advice. I'll be somewhere in the middle. I'll probably look more like a hunter than anything. I started on my BOB last night. I used one of the several backpacks we had laying around our house. Today, the family went to Wally World and I went to the sporting goods section....

Re: New here from WV!!!

So I've been browsing around and I'm really excited to get started. I can't wait to start my first BOB. It's probably already too late, but I must warn you that this is a task that will never be completed. I only joined the site about a year ago, and I have already built, torn down, and rebuilt my ...

So I've been browsing around and I'm really excited to get started. I can't wait to start my first BOB. I think I'll do that tonight. I have plenty of stuff already to get it started, based on what I've found around the forum. I'm sure it will be a learning process. The next thing I want to do is ge...

Re: New here from WV!!!

Thanks guys. Airballrad, I'm really interested in both. That's why this place is so cool. I have a lot to learn on the preparedness side, so I'll definitely be browsing the heck out of the boards. I may look through some of my old stories and do a few posts on some of the stuff I've covered. There w...

As a result of my job, the first thing I would have to do is try to find out exactly what's going on. Ideally, the phones aren't down y...

New here from WV!!!

Hello everyone! Long time fan of Zack in pop culture, but new to having any personal involvement in disaster preparedness. This site, by making it fun and using one of my interests, really pushed me toward getting into it, though. So I'm excited about getting prepared for everything up to and includ...
